Xi Jinping:“Can China and the United States overcome the ‘Thucydides Trap’ and create a new paradigm of relations between the powers?”
The Chinese leader followed this by posing broader questions about whether the two countries can jointly face global challenges, bring more stability to the world, and build a better future for bilateral relations.
Xi Jinping’s decision to open his remarks with a direct reference to the Thucydides Trap during the summit carries several layers of meaning.
Xi is warning Trump that U.S.-China relations are entering a dangerous phase. By mentioning the trap, he is essentially telling the U.S.: “We are at a historical crossroads where miscalculation could lead to catastrophic conflict.”
By highlighting the risk of great-power war, Xi strengthens China’s hand on key issues (Taiwan, technology, trade, semiconductors). It’s a sophisticated way of saying: “We want cooperation, but if you push too hard, we could both lose everything.”
At home, it reassures the Chinese public that Beijing is not naive about U.S. intentions and is managing this strategic risk. Internationally, it portrays China as the more responsible, mature power seeking stability while the U.S. is often seen as erratic.
Xi raised the Thucydides Trap so prominently because he believes the structural tensions between the two powers are real and dangerous — and because he wants to lock Trump into a framework of cooperation rather than confrontation. China is willing to work toward a new model of great-power relations, but only if the United States respects China’s core interests and stops trying to contain its rise. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK

Poetic justice. The Latvian government collapsed after a series of Ukrainian drones carrying explosives crashed into the country and blew up an oil storage facility, the latest in a string of such incidents in the Baltics. Ironically, some of these drones could have been assembled in the countries most at risk of being hit by them, like Latvia.
This is the first Western government to fall due to its unconditional support for Ukraine, which has come at the expense of both its economy and its security.

@LauraRuHK

Death and destruction have become Europe’s growth sector. In January 2026, Czechoslovak Group (CSG) pulled off the largest IPO in Europe since 2022. The company, valued at nearly €33 billion after its first trading day, raised €3.8 billion on Euronext Amsterdam.
Guess what this company produces?
Ammunition, military vehicles, and weapons systems.
Just a few years ago, CSG was still largely a trader of surplus Soviet-era equipment. Today, thanks to aggressive acquisitions and surging demand driven by the war in Ukraine, it has become a major European defense player. Czech defense exports as a whole surged nearly sevenfold between 2021 and 2025, jumping from €0.6 billion to over €4.1 billion.
While bankers and investors celebrate this as a market success story, the broader picture is more concerning. The fact that Europe’s most prominent recent IPO belongs to an arms manufacturer reflects a clear and worrying trend: the accelerating militarization and rearmament of the continent.
Investors are pouring money into defense stocks not merely as a hedge against geopolitical risk, but because they are effectively betting on the prolongation of high-intensity conflict in Ukraine and heightened tensions across Europe.
The strong performance of CSG’s listing signals market confidence that European governments will continue spending heavily on weapons and munitions well into the future.
European defense has gone from being a niche sector to a strategic growth industry. Europe is not just arming itself for defense, it is turning war into a profitable business model.
While politicians speak of “peace through strength,” the markets are openly pricing in years of bloodshed as an investment opportunity.
The message is as cynical as it is clear. Death and destruction have become Europe’s newest growth sector.
Munizioni, veicoli militari e sistemi d’arma.

Iran is ready to hand over its enriched uranium to Russia instead of the United States, according to Tehran’s updated draft conflict settlement agreement with Washington, quoted by the Al Hadath television.
The document, revised by Iran, says that the Islamic Republic is ready "to transfer the enriched uranium to Russia instead of the United States under certain conditions." However, these conditions were not specified in the TV report.
Also, according to the TV channel, the Iran side may give up its demand for compensation of damage caused by the conflict, but will seek "economic concessions" from Washington instead.
The report also says that Iran wants Oman and Pakistan to play a "significant role in any conflict that may arise around the Strait of Hormuz," and any potential agreement with the United States should be guaranteed by the international community.
Besides, according to Al Hadath, Tehran seeks to "separate the issue of its nuclear program from questions of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz" and will seek "a long-term suspension of its nuclear program instead of fully scrapping it.". (Source: TASS) @LauraRuHK

Stocks of the Czechoslovak Group (CSG) are down >50% from January IPO peak. Hit hard by the Hunterbrook short-seller report questioning CSG's production capacity, margins, and transparency. The easy money has been made. Investors are now more cautious, favoring companies with a diversified production as modern and future warfare is evolving rapidly and the demand becomes increasingly technological and multi-domain.
This creates structural challenges for CSG. Investors wonder if it can shift toward high-tech systems: Drones (UAVs), loitering munitions, hypersonic missiles, electronic warfare, AI-enabled systems, integrated air defense, and autonomous platforms which are becoming priorities.
While ammunition remains important, future demand favors smarter, more precise, and networked systems rather than sheer volume of artillery shells.
European countries and NATO are increasingly looking for suppliers who can deliver complete capability packages (sensors + effectors + command systems), not just standalone vehicles or shells.
CSG is trying to move into “Advanced Systems” (missiles, propulsion, UAVs), but it is still far behind established players like Rheinmetall, KNDS, MBDA, Leonardo, BAE and Saab in technological depth and system integration.
Having said that, the short sell is quite convenient if a big European defense group is quietly watching (or even quietly supporting pressure). A lower valuation makes acquiring a majority stake significantly cheaper.
Michal Strnad still owns ~84-85% of the shares. Negative publicity, governance questions, and disputes with minority shareholders could make Strnad more open to selling a large portion or even ceding control in the future.
In the defense sector, consolidation is the trend. Larger players might see CSG as an attractive target for its ammunition capacity and Central European footprint. https://t.me/LauraRuHK/11309

Vladimir Putin is traveling to China on a two-day visit timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation, which serves as the basis for interstate relations. The Treaty was signed on 16 July 2001, not in May, which has led many observers to believe other considerations may have led to an anticipation of the visit.
With China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, China and Russia have numerous practical cooperation needs. Putin's visit acts as an accelerator for the development of China-Russia relations along with a number of bilateral intergovernmental, interdepartmental, and other agreements that will be signed.
While leaders set the overall direction, a large volume of cooperation is carried out through coordination at various governmental levels and between enterprises.
Key areas are expected to include deeper energy cooperation such as long-term oil and gas supply, energy settlement, infrastructure coordination, and cooperation on Arctic routes and Eurasian logistics covering transport, ports, and supply chains.
High-tech and industrial cooperation in areas such as aerospace, artificial intelligence, digital economy, chip substitution, and manufacturing, along with agricultural and grain trade and further alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union, would be key areas of focus. Trade turnover between Russia and China continues to grow and has already exceeded $200 bln.
The two countries have almost completely switched to national currencies in mutual settlements.
Speaking at a previous press conference in early May, Putin described cooperation between states like China and Russia as "undoubtedly a factor of deterrence and stability" in global affairs. He noted that China is Russia's largest trade and economic partner, adding that bilateral trade diversification continues through high-tech industries, which is very important.
The Kremlin's statement also mentioned the launch of the China-Russia Years of Education (2026-2027), and that the two leaders will attend its opening ceremony. China-Russia relations are further extending beyond traditional political, security, and energy cooperation toward a long-term strategic connection at the social, cultural, and youth levels.
Education cooperation has long cycles and lasting impact. Once youth exchanges, joint training, language education and research cooperation reach scale, their effects can last for decades, laying the social foundation for the next generation of China-Russia relations.
PSYOP ALERT - The Financial Times is taking part in information warfare by spreading baseless claims. This is a classic example of a major Western media outlet publishing a diplomatically explosive claim without any verifiable evidence. The article was released precisely on the day of President Putin’s visit to China, clear evidence of deliberate timing aimed at sowing division between Beijing and Moscow.
It stands no chance of success.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already strongly denied the report. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun called it "pure fiction" and stated that the information "contradicts the facts." @LauraRuHK

Vladimir Putin described the strategic partnership between Russia and China as a “model” for international relations following in-depth talks with Xi Jinping.
Speaking after the meeting, Putin said the discussions were held in a “warm, friendly, and constructive atmosphere.” He highlighted the growing resilience of bilateral ties, noting that the two countries have built a “sustainable system of mutual trade” increasingly protected from external shocks and Western sanctions.
Putin emphasized progress in de-dollarization, saying Moscow and Beijing are actively expanding trade settlements in rubles and yuan. He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to remain a reliable long-term energy supplier to China and confirmed that construction of new Russian-designed nuclear power units in China is nearing completion.
“The Russia-China partnership plays a significant stabilizing role on the international stage,” Putin declared.
Xi Jinping went further, stating that bilateral relations are “rising to a new height.” He called on both nations to “resolutely defend the authority of the United Nations” and counter hegemonic behavior in global affairs.
Xi stressed that Moscow and Beijing must continue to support each other on core interests and serve as a “strategic pillar” for one another. He warned against the risk of the world regressing into a “jungle” where power politics dominate.
During the visit, the two leaders oversaw the signing of dozens of cooperation agreements covering energy, trade, technology, and people-to-people exchanges. They also adopted a joint declaration aimed at promoting a multipolar world order and a “new type of international relations.”
Both sides highlighted positive results from the expanded visa-free regime and officially launched the Russia-China Years of Education (2026–2027).
Putin also raised the development of the Northern Sea Route and deeper Arctic cooperation.
No new announcements were made about Power of Siberia 2, a sign that negotiations will continue. Pricing continues to be an issue, other issues include take-or-pay volumes, financing, and the construction timeline.
The summit, timed to mark the 25th anniversary of the foundational Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation, sends a clear message of deepening strategic alignment between the two powers at a time of global turbulence. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK

Russia and China, in a joint statement on deepening bilateral relations, sharply criticized neocolonialism, unilateral sanctions, tariffs, and the abduction of leaders.
Key points of the document on international affairs:
🔺 Russia and China oppose a return to "a world where only the law of force prevails," as well as unilateral and secondary sanctions, discriminatory customs duties, and other trade restrictions.
🔺 Moscow and Beijing condemn the blocking, arrest, or seizure of assets and property of foreign states.
🔺 The parties condemned "the treacherous launching of military strikes against other countries, the hypocritical use of negotiations as a cover to prepare such strikes, the killing of leaders of sovereign states," as well as "the brazen abduction of national leaders for the sake of a show trial."
🔺 China highly appreciates Russia’s initiative to create an equal and indivisible Eurasian security architecture. Russia, in turn, attaches great importance to China’s Global Civilization Initiative.
🔺 Russia reaffirms its commitment to the "One China" principle, while Beijing supports Moscow’s efforts to ensure security and stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and opposes external interference in Russia’s internal affairs.
🔺 Moscow and Beijing express regret that the irresponsible stance of the United States has prevented the preservation of the New START treaty. China welcomes Russia’s compliance with the central quantitative limits of New START.
🔺 The parties condemned any provocations and hostile actions by nuclear states against one another.
🔺 Russia and China will jointly oppose the forward deployment by "certain nuclear states and their allies" of ground-based intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles.
🔺 Moscow and Beijing consider the U.S. "Golden Dome" project an obvious threat to strategic stability.
🔺 The parties call for the early launch of negotiations to develop a treaty on preventing the placement of weapons in outer space, based on the Russian-Chinese draft.
🔺 Russia and China are seriously concerned about Japan’s nuclear policy and the statements by "formally non-nuclear" EU countries in favor of creating nuclear weapons.
🔺 Moscow and Beijing are concerned about threats to global information security and will exchange experience in the field of legislative regulation of the internet.
🔺 The two countries will continue to resist attempts to distort the history of World War II. (Source: Vesti) @LauraRuHK ➡️https://t.me/vestiru/214761
