Rats spread among the rubble of destroyed homes and accumulated waste in Gaza

A video posted by videographer Momen al-Moghanni shows rats and other rodents infesting the rubble of destroyed homes and piles of accumulated waste in Gaza.

Humanitarian organisations, including the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Save the Children, have warned that severe rodent and pest infestations are affecting more than 80% of displacement sites in Gaza.

They say uncollected rubbish, damaged sewage systems and rising temperatures are driving the crisis, placing thousands of children at risk of bites and disease.

How the far right weaponised the Ceuta border crisis

"They absolutely hate being used for someone else's political discourse."

Speaking to MEE Live's Mathilda Mallinson from Ceuta, Spanish journalist Javier Jennings says the recent migrant crossing into the Spanish enclave was quickly seized upon by far-right politicians across Europe and the United States for their own political agendas.

Figures including US President Donald Trump and Reform UK's Zia Yusuf used the incident to reinforce anti-immigration narratives. But Jennings argues this does not reflect the views of many people living in Ceuta, who instead helped migrants and rejected being a symbol in far-right debates.

"The locals... absolutely hate being used for someone else's political discourse, leverage, narrative," he says. "They feel misunderstood by the right and the far right."

📰US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday evening that Washington is holding talks with Iran and would prefer an agreement rather than further military action against the country.

Speaking during an event in Las Vegas, Trump said the US had been preparing to launch what he described as “the biggest attack since world war two before Iranian officials asked for negotiations.

“I would rather make a deal with Iran because I don’t want to kill people,” he added, while reaffirming his commitment that Tehran would not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.

It came as the Washington Post reported that Trump confronted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over a critical shortage of munitions during the war on Iran.
