π°Turkey confirmed on Thursday for the first time that it had joined efforts to establish a multinational maritime defence coalition aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
The announcement signals increased cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Ankara after the signing of a trilateral pact between the states and Pakistan in Mecca last week.
βAt the invitation of Saudi Arabia, a technical meeting was held in Riyadh on 28 July to ensure freedom of navigation through the Bab al-Mandab Strait, followed by a meeting of the chiefs of general staff on 30 July 2026,β the Turkish Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.
The ministry added that Turkey was participating in another coordination meeting on the establishment of the maritime defence coalition in Jeddah on Thursday.

π°βA recent controversy involving Palestinian medical staff at Haifaβs Rambam Hospital reveals several important things about the position of Palestinian citizens of Israel, particularly within the healthcare system.
The staff members were publicly lambasted following allegations that they mistreated and neglected Israeli soldiers in their care, including by speaking only Arabic at the hospital.
The subsequent public debate has gone beyond the specific details of this case, raising broader questions about linguistic rights. In several other recent incidents, Palestinian citizens of Israel have been banned from speaking Arabic in their workplaces.
Far-right politicians, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, have amplified the Rambam allegations, fuelling claims that Palestinian healthcare staff should not speak Arabic at work β a demand that has previously been formalised in some hospitals"

π°More than 70% of Palestinians oppose Hamas disarming before Israel completely withdraws from the Gaza Strip, according to a new survey.
The poll found that 72% believe Israel would resume its genocide in Gaza and refuse to withdraw fully if Hamas surrendered its weapons.
The Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research published the findings on Wednesday, offering a detailed picture of Palestinian attitudes towards the future of Gaza, their political leadership and the prospect of Palestinian statehood.
Even after Hamas accepted a proposal from Nickolay Mladenov, head of the US-backed "Board of Peace", 40% of respondents expect βthe current situation to continue, with some continued killingsβ.
Israel has rejected the US proposal.
Another 30% expect calm to prevail, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to take control and reconstruction to begin.
