Why is Yemen conflict so underreported?
Since early October, Houthi forces have encircled Taiz, Yemen’s third-largest city. Nearly a million people are cut off from food aid.
Yemeni analyst and human rights activist Baraa Shiban recently returned from the city. He warns against framing the war as a choice between the Houthis, who back the Palestinian cause, and their opponents, calling it a “mistake when you try to explain the internal dynamics of the conflict.” That framing, he says, overlooks the people inside Yemen’s besieged cities, who “pay the most expensive price.”

Israeli protesters call for Arab-Jewish unity government
Dozens of protesters took to the streets of Tel Aviv on Wednesday evening, calling for the opposition bloc to form a national unity government with Palestinian-led parties after the election produced inconclusive results, with no clear winner.
“We simply need to take this victory and understand that there is no future here without Arab-Jewish partnership. This could be a historic moment,” says protester Noa Poliaki.
Neither side has secured the 61 seats needed for a parliamentary majority. Palestinian-led parties, which are projected to win 19 seats, have offered to support an opposition-led minority government to prevent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from returning to power. But key opposition figures have rejected the prospect of governing with Arab parties.

Israeli academic confronted over quote suggesting rape of Palestinian families
"His wife was raped in front of him, so that they could get information from him."
Israeli academic Mordechai Kedar was confronted over a quote suggesting that threatening to rape Palestinian resistance fighters’ mothers or sisters could deter attacks, during a discussion on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
Kedar denied making the statement, but the exact wording from a 2014 Haaretz interview was read out, leaving him struggling to explain the remarks.
When pressed, Kedar attempted to shift the context of the quote, rather than directly address its wording.
British commentator Benjamin Moser then placed the remarks in the wider context of Israeli society, pointing to demonstrations defending Israeli soldiers accused of sexually abusing a Palestinian detainee and public rallies held in their support.

Abdul El-Sayed challenges Trump to take a lie detector test
US Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has fired back at Donald Trump over his suggestion that he should go through a metal detector, challenging the president to take a lie detector test instead.
El-Sayed says he'll happily go through a metal detector every day if Trump agrees to one lie detector test.
He says his first questions would concern Jeffrey Epstein and then whether Trump actually won the 2020 election.
“I've got nothing to hide. You've got so much to hide,” El-Sayed declared.

Taiz healthcare system crippled by Houthi siege
Amal al-Sabri, a 25-year-old pregnant mother of two from Yemen's Taiz, recounted how she and her husband escaped from their home after she had been shot by a Houthi sniper. For doctors to save her life, she won't be able to keep the baby.
Ansar Allah, the official name for the Houthi movement, has besieged Taiz for over a month leading to acute shortages of essential goods, from food to medical aid.
According to the Red Cross, local hospitals on the front lines, which were already under strain before the escalation in fighting, are receiving over 700 patients per week, burdening the healthcare system.

Tucker Carlson releases footage of American beaten by Israeli settlers
"They're beating up an American homeowner almost to death."
Tucker Carlson has released previously unseen footage showing masked Israeli settlers brutally beating an elderly American man with sticks, leaving him badly injured, before pouring gasoline over his family’s car and setting it on fire in the occupied West Bank.
Carlson says the attackers operated with the full impunity enjoyed by Israeli settlers in the occupied territories, adding that they beat the man “almost to death.”
The family member who filmed the attack pulled out of appearing on the show, fearing that identifying himself could put his relatives still living in the town at risk of being killed.
Carlson also directly confronted US Ambassador Mike Huckabee, accusing him of ignoring the American citizen after his family sought help and demanding that he do his job.

Tenured MIT professor continues to fight to teach on Palestine
"Political sovereignty and linguistic sovereignty are connected. Once the weaponisation of language is used to deny children education, deny citizens access to healthcare, justice, or political participation, then we're no longer dealing with just simple academic issues."
Renowned linguistics professor at MIT Michel DeGraff sought to teach a course in the Spring of 2024 on linguistics and liberation, with a focus on Palestine. Since then, he's faced suppression for his protest against the decision and has had his title changed to “Faculty at large” in the Department of Arts and Sciences.
DeGraff has been in rows with both the university and US congress since 2024, but the legal battle for his academic freedom as a tenured professor began just this year and is reaching new stakes.
