📑Finding a Private Knowledgebase That Works

I have been testing private PKM tools for years, trying to find something powerful without the usual privacy tradeoffs. My latest find is Anytype, and it has been working well for me so far.

What stands out is how it is built to work offline. You can use it without constant syncing, and you can even sync devices inside your local network without connecting to the outside world. It also asks for zero personal data. No email, no phone number, just an encryption key you get as a seed phrase.

The main drawback is storage for files. The base tier gives 100 MB for uploads, so images and attachments add up fast unless you pay. Also worth noting, Anytype is funded by VC firms, so keep your eyes open.

Likely the most successful jewelry robber in U.S. history was accidentally deported.

The New York Times reported the case of Jason Nelony Presilla Flores, suspected of taking part in an armed truck robbery that stole over $100 million in jewelry. He was one of seven participants tracked down and arrested.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported Flores to Ecuador in late December after he requested voluntary departure, according to court filings.

He faced up to 15 years in prison, but was deported during the investigation.

Immigration authorities were reportedly unaware of the criminal case, and now, having been removed from the country, Flores may avoid punishment.

The article notes this is not the first time accused criminals have been deported instead of prosecuted. Deportation has become a common outcome in court, but cases where suspects are deported without prosecutors’ knowledge—though still rare—are becoming more frequent.

The jeweler, who spent over twenty years collecting the stolen pieces, expressed dissatisfaction.
