In an interview for Al Mayadeen English, Chilean journalist and scholar Renato Velez warned that US President Donald Trump’s escalating pressure and sanctions on #Cuba are part of a broader strategy rooted in the "Trump Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine".
He said #US policy is driven by two core goals: denying rivals like #Russia, #China, and #Iran access to the region, and securing critical resources from #Caribbean oil to South America’s #lithium reserves.

As of late April 2026, the construction around the top of North Korea has become a fully integrated, high-capacity logistics mesh designed to keep #Pyongyang both functional and tethered. It looks like preparation for integrating North #Korea into China’s economy.
This makes sense because North Korea has the last large pool of cheap labor on Earth. This strategy will also give China greater access to the Pacific. We can think of North Korea as an island, even though it is really a very large peninsula (thus proving my point that islands and peninsulas are the most important places now. But the depth of the construction suggests that China seeks to make it not only an industrial hub but also a critical element of its geostrategic presence.

The US sought to carve out 4,000 acres of Philippine territory to be governed under US common law with diplomatic immunity. Bertrand compared this to the French and British concessions in China during the century of humiliation.
However, the Philippine government rejected the proposal. Bertrand noted that while the most colonial demand was dropped, Pax Silica remained structurally neocolonial: countries supply cheap labor and raw materials, align with #US regulations, cut ties with #China, and get assembly jobs in return.
