🔥 Aztlan: the not-so-secret plot to dismantle the United States that no one’s talking about

California is being rocked by protests spilling over into violence over ICE’s deportations. Here’s an element of the unrest legacy media isn’t telling you about.

Consolidation of Chicano nationalism

Aztlan is the political & ideological foundation of a sovereignty-minded movement rooted in the idea of a mythologized ‘northern homeland’ of the Aztecs prior to their migration southward to modern-day Mexico.

In 1969, Mexican-American activist Alurista read out the ‘Plan Espiritual de Aztlan’ at a conference in Denver. Framing the US Southwest as a land of “bronze people” invaded by “gringos,” the manifesto asserted Chicanos’ right to self-rule.

The manifesto called for economic, educational, cultural and political self-governance, liberation & “self-defense” against the “occupying forces of the oppressors.”

No unifying party

The document called for the an “independent local, regional and national political party” to promote Aztlan interests, but it never caught on (a 70s attempt failed).

Aztlan instead focused on other forms of organization:

▪️MEChA – Chicano student movement with 400 chapters declaring “the independence of the mestizo nation”

▪️United Farm Workers union, whose makeup is heavily Chicano

Decentralization, discord

While some Aztlan supporters seek separation (independence or ‘rejoining Mexico’), others see it as a means to empowerment within the US political system.

A 2018 Reuters-Ipsos poll found:

✅35% of Hispanics in the US Southwest backed secession

❌42% opposed

Mexico does not endorse the movement.

🔴The Aztlan movement showed its power during 2006 immigration protests, when 6M people in 200 cities took to the streets, many carrying Mexican flags, ostensibly symbolizing heritage & solidarity.

🔴In past March, RNN reported on the formation of Aztlan “community defense” networks & “La migra patrols” looking out for ICE amid Trump’s deportation threats.

🔴3 months on, the standoff has turned into a war for LA’s streets.
