Kindle Collects a Surprisingly Large Amount of Data
Turns out, Kindle Collects a Ton of Data
The Kindle sends device information, usage metadata, and details about every interaction with the device (or app) while it's being used. All of this is linked directly to the reader account.
Opening the app, reading a book, flipping through a few pages, then closing the book sends over 100 requests to Amazon servers.

Baidu's Android apps caught collecting sensitive user details
Data collection issue identified in Baidu Maps and Baidu Search Box apps. Both apps were removed from the Play Store in October 2020 after a Google investigation, with Baidu Search Box making a comeback last week.
Two Android applications belonging to Chinese tech giant Baidu have been removed from the official Google Play Store at the end of October.
The two apps βBaidu Maps and Baidu Search Boxβ were removed after Google received a report from US cyber-security firm Palo Alto Networks claiming that the two apps contained code that collected information about users.
According to Palo Alto Networks, the data collection code was found in the Baidu Push SDK, used to show real-time notifications inside both apps.

TrackerControl
TrackerControl allows users to monitor and control the widespread, ongoing, hidden data collection in mobile apps about user behaviour (βtrackingβ).
To detect tracking, TrackerControl combines the power of the Disconnect blocklist, used by Firefox, and our in-house blocklist is used, created from analysing ~2 000 000 apps! Additionally, TrackerControl supports custom blocklists.
π‘ This approach
ππΌ reveals the companies behind tracking,
ππΌ allows to block tracking selectively, and
ππΌ exposes the purposes of tracking, such as analytics or advertising.
The app also aims to educate about your rights under Data Protection Law, such the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Under the hood, TrackerControl uses Androidβs VPN functionality, to analyse appsβ network communications locally on the Android device. This is accomplished through a local VPN server, to enable network traffic analysis by TrackerControl.
π‘ No root is required, other VPNs or Private DNS are not supported. No external VPN server is used, to keep your data safe! TrackerControl even protects you against DNS cloaking, a popular technique to hide trackers in websites and apps.
TrackerControl will always be free and open source, being a research project.
