Since 2017, the budget of the Ministry of the French Armed Forces has almost doubled, increasing from 32.7 billion euros to 57.1 billion euros.In early 2026 the draft budget law (PLF) was adopted. For 2026, the funding for the "Defense" program was expected to increase by 6.7 billion euros:
* 3.2 billion euros already planned by the military programming law (LPM) for 2024-2030;
* An additional 3.5 billion euros proposed in the 2026 draft budget law.
France's Budget for 2026: "Military spending" was the only area with in increase, at the expense of #education, #healthcare, and other essential services.

Hundreds were injured, thousands arrested.
