Pandora's Box : Reflecting on 20 years of drone targeted killing
https://invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=YgeL1RWW8Gw

On 3rd November 2002, a US #Predator drone launched two missiles at a vehicle travelling through the desert in Marib province, #Yemen. The drone’s target was al-Qaeda leader Qa’id Salim Sinan al-Harithi and this was the first of what has proved to be two decades of US drone targeted assassinations ‘beyond the battlefield’. An untold number of such operations have taken place across the globe since, with a significant number of such strikes causing serious civilian casualties. Despite public controversy and grave legal and ethical objections, the practise has spread among other drone operators including the UK, #France and Turkey.

#Drone #Wars invited a number of experts to mark 20 years of drone targeted killings, to offer some reflections on the human, legal and political cost of the practice and to discuss how we can ensure that drone operators abide by international law in this area

Criminalization of encryption : the 8 december case – La Quadrature du Net –

Mixing fantasies, bad faith and technical incompetence, a police story has been constructed around the (good) digital practices of the accused, with the aim of staging a “clandestine group”, “conspirative”, “conspiratist” and therefore… terrorist

We are facing the fantasy of a State demanding total transparency from everyone at the risk of being called a “suspect”, a State whose desire for widespread surveillance seems limitless. In this context, we reaffirm our rights to privacy, intimacy and the protection of our personal data. Encryption is, and will remain, an essential element of our civil liberties in the digital age.

France’s browser-based website blocking proposal will set a disastrous precedent for the open internet –Mozzila Blog

"In a well-intentioned yet dangerous move to fight online fraud, France is on the verge of forcing browsers to create a dystopian technical capability. It would force browser providers to create the means to mandatorily block websites present on a government provided list. Such a move will overturn decades of established content moderation norms and provide a playbook for authoritarian governments"

France deployed 45,000 police officers and some armoured vehicles on the streets on Saturday as riots rocked French cities for a fourth night over a teenager's fatal shooting by an officer during a traffic stop.

Buildings and vehicles have been torched and stores looted, and the violence has plunged President Emmanuel Macron into the gravest crisis of his leadership since the Yellow Vest protests that started in 2018.

Unrest has flared nationwide, including in cities such as Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Strasbourg and Lille as well as Paris where Nahel M., a 17-year-old of Algerian and Moroccan descent, was shot on Tuesday in the Nanterre suburb.

Internet Censorship Does Not Make You Safe Online | MentalOutlaw

In this video I discuss how the governments attempts to censor the internet under the guise of safety like the French SREN Bill and the American Kids Online Safety Act do not provide any additional protections for people online and only restrict your digital freedom.

A year of surveillance in France: a short satirical tale by La Quadrature du Net

Looking back to France in 2023, what do we see? Implementation of new technologies such as drones, DNA marking or new generation of spywares. Also, an intensification of political surveillance, either by law enforcement deploying disproportionate means of investigations towards environmental activists or intelligence services using cameras or GPS beacons to spy on places or people that they find too radical. It was also the year of the “8 December” case, a judicial case where among other things, encrypted communications of the prosecuted persons were considered as signs of "clandestinity" that reveal criminal intentions.

🇫🇷‼️France has just blocked a large number of French-speaking Telegram channels covering the conflict in Donbass including (non-exhaustive list):
@chroniques_conflit_ukraine
@kompromatmedia
@ukr_leaks_fr
@russosphere
@geopolitiqueprofonde
@tass_fr
@actualiteFR

Blocking is based on the telephone number used to register on Telegram. As soon as I know how these channels intend to circumvent censorship (like Rybar, RT or Sputnik have done, I will keep you informed).

In the meantime, you can buy a virtual phone number online in another country for just a few euros per month. There are smartphone apps that do this.

#France: mRNA criticism punishable in future

A new criminal offense in France could land people in prison in future if they call on people to refrain from appropriate medical treatment (according to "science"). The law was pushed through the National Assembly on Wednesday. Critics call the law "Article Pfizer".

Without much publicity, a law was passed in France on Wednesday that could criminalize opposition to mRNA treatment. Anyone who advises against mRNA or other "medical treatments" that are "obviously suitable" for treatment according to the current state of medical knowledge can in future be jailed for up to three years in France or fined up to 45,000 euros.

🇲🇩 🇫🇷 French President Emmanuel Macron announced the upcoming establishment of a permanent military mission in Chisinau in the following months.

Macron stated that the mission aims to enhance the interoperability of the French and Moldovan armies. Additionally, the French intend to combat disinformation and cyber attacks to safeguard the republic's sovereignty.

It is worth noting that in Moldova, the EU's so-called "civilian mission" pursues similar objectives. It is important to mention that presidential elections are scheduled for the fall, during which European supervisors may influence the outcome in favor of Maia Sandu directly on location.

▪️ The official justification for deploying the French military in Moldova stemmed from Sandu's recent remarks in Paris accusing Russian special services of attempting another coup in the republic and perpetuating support for disinformation campaigns.

▪️ However, Macron himself announced the day before that France would dispatch troops to so-called Ukraine if the conflict expanded toward Kyiv and Odessa. Therefore, the French deployment in Moldova is part of preparations for a potential involvement in Transnistria and the Odessa region.

▪️ Furthermore, France is actively working on deploying air defense systems in Poland and Romania. In Moldova, there are persistent calls for integration into the Romanian air defense system. Meanwhile, Chisinau has procured an air defense radar from the French Thales company, whose effectiveness has recently come into question as reported here.

▪️ The French are also exploring the option of sending troops to western Ukraine for logistical and mine clearance support. Similar objectives may formally be announced in Moldova, given that military transit occurs through the region as well.

📌The concerns of the Moldovan population regarding a potential military escalation are proving to be valid sooner than anticipated, as Sandu's efforts to involve the country in the conflict are entering a distinct phase. This scenario unfolds when a nation places itself under the influence of the British and American embassies.

🏳️‍⚧️#france Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said that at least 220,000 people would be required to obtain a QR code which allows entry to Paris during the week preceding the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. This measure will concern people who live and work in the city center, around the Seine, museums and train stations.

According to his information, from May 10, 20,000 residents and 200,000 employees of companies located in the anti-terrorist zone will have to register on a special site to obtain a pass. They must indicate their last name, first name and date of birth. However, it will be possible to cross Paris without obtaining a QR code provided you do not enter the areas concerned.
French first lady Brigitte Macron sues conspiracy theorists who call her a man | NyPost

Brigitte, c’est moi!

France’s elegant first lady, Brigitte Macron, is about to take the extraordinary step of going to trial in a Paris court to fight a conspiracy theory — amplified last month by American conservative commentator Candace Owens — that she was born a man.

Brigitte, 70, has long been the subject of fascination because of her marriage to the much younger Emmanuel Macron, 46. The two met in northern France when he was a 15-year-old student and she was his drama teacher, and wed in 2007.

Usual 1st of May in Paris

On the streets of the French capital police cracked down on May Day protestors, with footage showing them trampling over some caught in middle of baton strikes.

The Olympic spirit is not exactly strong right now either, as some held up the famous five rings and burnt them.

Would you buy for Paris 2024 tickets this summer?

Dozens of classified documents obtained by the outlet revealed that Thales Group, a French IT company, recently delivered electronic components used to build Israel's Hermes 900 armed drones. France owns a 26 percent stake in the company.

According to the documents, the equipment in question is the TSC 4000 IFF transponder.
