🇵🇸 Sights set on Somaliland: The threat of a total US–UK–Israeli takeove | The Cradle
As Tel Aviv and Washington quietly court Somaliland as a destination for #Gaza’s displaced, this #British-controlled enclave on the #RedSea emerges as both a strategic imperial launchpad and a potential open-air prison for Palestinians – armed, trained, and surveilled by #London.
In late 2022, mass protests erupted in #Somaliland forces responded with lethal force, killing dozens. The crackdown escalated, and in 2023, Somaliland’s military indiscriminately shelled the city. AM described the attack as “indiscriminate,” targeting schools, hospitals, and mosques, displacing hundreds of thousands and killing scores.
This is the context in which Somaliland appeals to Israel and its western patrons: a brutal, British-run security apparatus capable of extinguishing any form of dissent – ergo, the perfect dumping ground for Gazan #refugees. If #Washington establishes a base to launch strikes on #Yemen..

Yemeni forces confirmed yesterday's missile and drone attack on the USS Harry S. Truman, forcing it to retreat to the northernmost part of the #RedSea
The same attack likely caused the loss of a US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet, which occurred after the carrier made a "sharp turn" to "avoid fire." A tugboat was also lost, and a sailor was injured.
They also announced an attack on Ashkelon using drones.
US airpower, including 22 MQ-9 Reapers and two F/A-18 Super Hornets, has cost at least $860 million since the start of the US aggression against #Yemen.
CNN reports that the US cannot move to a "second phase" of anti-Houthi operations due to the Yemenis' unexpectedly good air defenses.

The Houthi-led Yemeni army announced the capture of advanced surveillance systems supplied by the US, Israel, and the UAE on Yemen's coast
The seized equipment included a French Thales Coast Watcher 100 AI system with a detection range exceeding 150 nautical miles, German Hensoldt Spexer and SharpEye radars, an Israeli ELM-2226 ACSR radar resistant to electronic warfare, and submersible Blue Whale sensors with thermal cameras.
The Houthis stated the network was linked to a joint operations room involving the #CIA, #Mossad, and Saudi intelligence (#KSA), with recruits trained by American, Israeli, and Saudi officers. This follows recent Houthi advances along the #RedSea coast, including the capture of Mokha port and islands near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Yemen secures international recognition of sovereignty over key Red Sea passages:
With Yemeni forces completing their control over the entire western coastline of the #RedSea overlooking some of the most important shipping routes in the Middle East, international reactions have begun to follow. However, these reactions have largely come against Saudi Arabia, which had sought to portray the developments as a threat to international navigation. So how did the international positions unfold?
The developments began at the #UN Security Council, which held an emergency session on the situation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait. #Saudi Arabia strongly pushed for the session through #France and the #UK, seeking international cover for an escalation in #Yemen. Riyadh was at least hoping for a statement condemning those it refers to as the “Houthis,” while its representative spent much of the session portraying the control of the strategic strait by the group as a threat to international navigation, rather than merely a threat to Saudi Arabia.
Contrary to Saudi Arabia’s expectations, and despite its belief that international organizations had become subject to its influence and financial leverage, the responses were different. Successive statements by representatives of major powers at the council expressed no particular concern over the control of Bab al-Mandab by wrongly described as the “Houthis.” Instead the Yemeni Armed Foces ( #YAF) , their statements focused on the need for negotiations and a diplomatic solution, precisely the path Saudi Arabia does not want.
The session ended without even issuing a statement, after which senior officials from major powers began making their positions clear. America, having experienced the costs of war several times, quickly reaffirmed its commitment to the truce and its objective of avoiding further confrontation in Yemen. #Russia presented an initiative aimed at rescuing Saudi Arabia that included returning to the implementation of the previously proposed roadmap that Riyadh had rejected. China, meanwhile, explicitly stated through its foreign minister that it categorically opposed expanding the conflict into Yemen, in a reference to Saudi military mobilizations.
According to this interpretation, the positions of the major powers carry one clear message:
Yemen has the right to assert control over its coastline and vital maritime passages, provided that it remains committed to securing maritime navigation. #Sanaa has made such commitments since the beginning of its efforts to expel the remaining coalition forces from the western coast. The positions therefore constitute indirect recognition of Yemen’s sovereignty and rejection of Saudi efforts to expand the war.

🇺🇸🇪🇷 US lifts sanctions on Eritrea as Washington turns its attention to the Red Sea
The Trump administration has lifted sanctions imposed on the Eritrean Defense Forces, the country’s ruling party and several other Eritrean entities and officials during the Biden administration.
The sanctions were imposed in connection with #Eritrea’s involvement in the Tigray war in neighboring #Ethiopia.
But the timing is particularly interesting.
Eritrea sits on the Red Sea, across from Saudi Arabia and Yemen, with the strategically located ports of #Massawa and #Assab.
With the war in #Yemen escalating and #RedSea shipping increasingly under threat, Washington appears interested in improving relations with a country occupying one of the most strategically important stretches of coastline in the region.

The Saudi-Israeli War On Yemen’s Resistance: Intelligence Sharing, Civilian Targets & Sectarian Propaganda | Mint Press
Scrambling to halt the ongoing offensive of Yemen’s Armed Forces(YAF), Israel and Saudi Arabia have strengthened ties through a joint covert campaign aimed at salvaging what remains of their supremacy in the #RedSea region. Tel Aviv and Riyadh’s losses of key military strongholds in Yemen’s Western coast, has ushered in a new era of soft-normalisation.
Saudi Arabia has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Yemen, resulting in thousands of casualties since its renewed bombing campaign began this July. It now heavily relies on Israeli targeting intelligence backing in order to conduct dozens of strikes across Yemeni territory on a daily basis, including attacks on civilian market places and residential buildings..
