As the Buenos Aires Herald reported, Milei’s proposal went beyond the new reactors. The government also wanted to expand #uranium production and build a “Nuclear City” in #Patagonia, where nuclear power would supply data centres used for artificial intelligence.
#Milei did not mention #CAREM, even though the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Nuclear Energy Agency, or OECD-NEA, ranked it among only seven small modular reactor designs worldwide to have entered construction. It was also one of only four licensed for construction before 2025, and up to 70 per cent of its components were to be made in #Argentina.
