🔸A person cannot do everything that he/she appears to have the authority to do. For example, a person is not able to carry out every crime that he/she wishes to do. Because the #destinies determined by God should allow him/her to commit that crime. Some people who commit some bad deeds and crimes may be resurrected with the pharaohs even though they did not even rule over a small village in this world! This is due to the fact that in this short time and opportunities that they had in this world, they did all the bad deeds and crimes that were possible for them and that they were able to do. [If they had been given the opportunities of a pharaoh, they would have behaved as he did.]
🔸The same thing is true about good people. For example, a person is not a very good person in appearances or does not do many extra worship acts that much. However, God gives him/her a number of small opportunities and he/she manifests his pure, internal being in these limited cases. God will resurrect him/her with the Friends of God and the great martyrs.
🔸The Holy Prophet of God (s) said, “The #intention of a believer is better than his/her actions, and the intention of a hypocrite is worse than his/her actions. Each person acts in accordance with his/her intention.” [Kafi, vol. 3, p. 218] Great scholars have interpreted this tradition in this way that a believer intends to do many good actions that he/she may not be able to do in practice. Therefore, the intention of a believer is always higher and better than his/her actions. On the other hand, an unbeliever intends to do many bad deeds that he/she is not able to do in action.

Paying attention to our #destinies means that we should know we are not completely free to do all good or bad deeds. On the highway of life, we cannot make a U-turn and change our path at just any time we want. Sometimes we have to travel one kilometre to get to a place where we can make a U-turn. For example, when a tradition says, “The worship acts of a person who eats from unlawful money will not be accepted for forty days,” [Kanz al-Amal, tradition no. 9266] this means that he cannot make a U-turn and change his path for forty days.
🔸It is very good for us to look at these compulsory parts of our lives. Of course, according to what Imam Sadiq (‘a) said, “We are not completely #forced, nor are we completely #free. Rather, it is something between these two.” [Kafi, vol. 1, p. 160] We should pay attention to this fact that at least a part of our lives is not in our control.
🔸Sometimes a person is captivated by his past #goodness. For example, consider a person who serves the Household of the Prophet (‘a) or their friends, honors the religious rites or makes a sacrifice at some time. Does such a person have the authority to do every bad deed he wants to do? No! God will not let him.
🔸Imam Husayn (‘a) said, “When people want to obey God, God will not stop them. However, when they want to commit a sin, if God wants, He will put a distance between them and their intention.” [Makatib al-A’imah, vol. 3, p. 151]
