India has the world’s second largest English-speaking population.
With over 125 million people speaking English, India is second only to the USA in this respect, although it is only about 10 percent of its population. No wonder that there are so many Indian academic writers out there. More than 100 major languages are spoken in India. English was introduced by the British and is now considered as the lingua franca of Independent India.
