There was a time when he would have simply smiled back and went about his way. Maybe the chivalry was what made them smile at him in the first place. But those days are long gone, and that character is long lost. Today, he stares. Longingly and repulsively. All the anguish but having merely numbed him to the cold-shoulders and snubs.
