The Pitiful LifeThe Pitiful Life

For far too long I yearned,
For far too long I burned,

The solitude which had me engulfed,
Was now getting me bummed,

Quick to catch, was I,
The first to even try,

The leap before the look,
Always bound to land in a hook,

Love isn't the only blinding one,
Desperation too has always won,

The newfound fiery light,
Doused quicker than it shone bright,

The creeping weariness crept,
The seething loathing seethed,

His mischievous ways do never end,
For he brings forth a newfound friend

The raw and bare emotions,
Struck up by the magical potions,

The engineered peace lays festered,
The faux calm is now pestered,

Now mischief begets itself,
The wicked are beyond help,

The fascination mutual,
The doubts as well,

What now?
What not?

Time and distance,
Or time and proximity?

Only time alone can tell.
My heart goes on.

#InfiniteBliss #poetry #FirstAttempt #review

Author's Note: This is my very first attempt at poetry, fuelled by a surprise encounter I never could have imagined. Please bear with the cliche rhyming scheme!
Three children are sitting on a log beside a stream. One of them looks up at the sky and says:

"This is simply marvelous! We should make a ritual of coming here! I promise to come back here every year and tell you guys all about my adventures."

The boys said nothing but silently followed suit, staring blankly into the vast skies. The rippling of the stream was met, only by the rustling of the trees. Neither of the boys could muster a single syllable.

"I wish you guys weren't leaving so soon."

To the boys, the abrupt outburst was something they could never have expected from a girl like Anna, and as for Anna herself, the emotion was one she chided herself for.

Author's Note: I feel a lack of imagination on my part, and the want of another prompt to continue further. Hopefully I will be able to develop my imagination as I go farther along in this group! Kudos to Mr. Rajiv and Ms. Suan for their collaborated efforts at founding something #SimplyWonderful.
More than a few secondsMore than a few seconds

One, two, three,
The eyes, they meet.
Or the words, is it?
Eyes or words,
Meet they did.

One, two, three,
Too many clicks.
Strange, is it?
Strange or not,
Click they did.

One, two, three,
The hearts, do beat.
Brief, is it?
Firm or brief,
Beat they did.

One, two, three,
Poof, it goes.
Hexed, is it?
Hex or not,
Gone it is.

Lethargy Vicious

Impervious to time,
Immersed in vice.
Lost I remain,
Within the boundless mind.

Poisoned by itself,
The voices of reason muted.
I engage the useless,
Whiling away good time.

Unwittingly moulding the self,
Shaping a pitiful character.
The ego, it consumes,
Leaving but a mess.

The rays of hope,
From between the clouds,
Do shine a path,
That leads to heaven.

The inspiration spans not,
For though etched in memories,
Tis but short-lived,
For I am a melancholy self.

I fly among them gods,
If only I could soar among these pawns.
But the coward does not,
For he fears action.

They say life surprises,
They say better is yet to come.
But the change will not come,
While the idling ego remains.

INTOXICATED

There was a time when he would have simply smiled back and went about his way. Maybe the chivalry was what made them smile at him in the first place. But those days are long gone, and that character is long lost. Today, he stares. Longingly and repulsively. All the anguish but having merely numbed him to the cold-shoulders and snubs. From gallant gentleness, to perverse persistence, he still picks the wrong battles.

"Check the restraints."
"Don't worry, he ain't going nowhere."
"Shut your damn mouth and check them."

As John heard the disgruntled mumbling of the man who was taking the orders, he realised that the voices weren't in his dreams after all. But why did it feel so distant and dreamy? He couldn't really think through, what with his head feeling foggy and all. His eyes just wouldn't open either as he tried to get a glimpse of the man, who was apparently tightening the straps on John's wrists.

"It hurts....." John mumbled indistinctly.
The man snorted derisively as he patted John's left arm, "Don't you worry fella, there ain't gonna be no more pain where you're headed!"

John barely heard the man, but he could sense the ominous tone of the man's voice. He felt his heart beating fast and loud, getting faster and louder by the second. One by one, he felt his senses coming back to him, and all of them seemed to be telling his brains the same thing - to be frightened. He heard the man's feet shuffling, in between his shallow breaths to which he was oblivious to until now. The tightening around his ankles were much more pronounced than that around his wrists.

The deafeningly loud crack and the splattering of a thick liquid onto his face were almost simultaneous, as John's body involuntarily jumped in fright! But the man had done his job right, John wasn't going anywhere and all that his reflexes had managed to do was to make the restraints start tearing at his flesh. John still hadn't woken up properly, but his consciousness was awake enough to realise that the sound was a gunshot and that the slimy dead weight that fell on his feet was the man's head.
