TWO FACES
It was a night
Night like every other night
Tranquil, dark and utter silence
Stillness and a state of deep slumber
Lying besides my grandma
Keeping my phone at the side table
All set to sleep
Just as I was switching off the lights
I witnessed a moment of serendipity
It was my grandma's aging face
The face of a book
The face of a history
The face of a relentless struggle
A face that was so simple yet so powerful
The face which can teach you far more than any academics could
This moment, it was an epiphany.
And all those flashbacks coming back
Unconditional love and all the pats on the back
These pats were not ordinary, they were momentous
Simply because these didn't come in package with achieving something
These were for existing.
Fixated on her face, now there is one more face that comes into light
Tha face lurking in the shadows
The face of a guilt
The face of a person
The face is me.
And once more there is a flashback
We both sitting together, yet so distant
My hands occupied with the phone
Her mind occupied with so many queries
She is shooting questions at me
I am smiling, looking at my phone
Asking her questions absentmindedly
She, playfully, takes my phone off my hands
I am not playful
Annoyed, I yell 'Do you even know how important this is? How will you, you are illiterate old school!'
I snatch my phone, dismissing her
Flashback ends
Tears does not.
I sleep with a heavy chest.
Alarm rings.
Dark changes into balmy morning.
I open my eyes.
There is a figure infront of me.
The same that has been there since the day I could remember
With a cup of tea and breakfast in her hands
She says 'Wake up, betaa.'
The face with a smile.
