Dear Diary,
Today was a significant day, for a small town person like me, who had been pushed out of my comfort zone due to unemployment.
As I ventured out, for my first job interview, I was overwhelmed by the pollution which was so intense that I nearly fainted. In his hurry, the poor rickshaw driver missed a signal and had to pay double the penalty. 'During the peak rush hours, corruption is also at its peak', quipped the driver and drove off nonchalantly.
Surviving the obnoxious gases, I reached the venue and approached a tea stall, only surprised to see a 10 year old lad. Child labour stared at me, and I felt remorse for the society that we had turned into. "Why aren't you going to school? Where are your parents?"
"My mother is blind, sir. She used to manage this stall, but an infection in her eyes caused her to stop. The lack of affordable healthcare made her lose her eyesight forever", he replied and walked off, symbolising the never-say-die spirit of this city.
My tryst with this city had started. Trashing my resume I called up my friend, who has started a NGO.

Resurrection
I am dead
Cut down by their sharpened saw
Through my silent pleas they hacked me raw
Punished me without a flaw
I offered them flowers and juicy fruit
But they resorted to violent brute
Causing me agony and pain acute
But my roots are deep and hurt they are not
My seeds spread and eventually sprout
Tiny shoots and a trunk stout
And I am alive.

"Vikas, you seem distracted and sleepy in class today. What happened?"
"Oh yaar, the AC wasn't working properly last night"
The bruises on his back and arms,
fresh from last night,
hurt whenever he moved.

The moment I decided
to put myself, above all else,
I felt I was alive
The moment I decided,
To let go emotional baggage,
I felt I was alive
The moment I decided,
I was worth much more,
I felt I was alive
The moment I decided,
To prioritize myself
I felt I was alive
The moment I decided
To give unconditional love
I felt I was alive
The moment I decided
To move on
I felt I was alive
The moment I decided
To forgive with my heart,
I felt I was alive.
The moment I decided,
To express myself in words
I felt I was alive.
