Despite the fact that the installed base of #Android devices is significantly larger than it is for #iOS devices, app publishers still seem to find larger earnings potential on #Appleβs #AppStore compared to #GooglePlay.
According to Sensor Towerβs estimates, the top 100 iOS app publishers made $84 million on average in Q1 2019, compared to $51 million for the most successful Android app makers. The difference between the two platforms is even more pronounced when excluding games publishers. The highest-grossing non-gaming app publishers for iOS outperformed the top 100 on Googleβs Play Store by 232 percent.

Global app revenue reached $39 billion in the first half of 2019, that means an increase of 15% compared to the same period of 2018.
Consumers spent an estimated $25.5 billion globally on #Appleβs #AppStore during the first half, an increase of 13.2% YoY from $22.6 billion in Q1 and Q2 of 2018. The amount generated by Appleβs platform was approximately 80% greater than #Google Playβs estimated gross revenue of $14.2 billion for the half. That was up 19.6% YoY from first half 2018βs total of $11.8 billion.

π iPad App Downloads See First Positive Quarterly Growth in Four Years
Driven by a surge in use and adoption of the device during the #COVID19 pandemic, quarterly first-time downloads of apps for #Appleβs #iPad surpassed 1.1 billion worldwide in Q1 2020, marking the first year-over-year growth in this metric since the Q4 2013 and a 40% increase from Q1 2019.
At the same time, quarterly global consumer spending in iPad apps saw its largest YoY increase since Q4 2014 at 16%, while crossing the $2 billion threshold for the first quarter ever.

For the eighth year running, #Apple is at the top of the list of most valuable brands in the world, keeping its lead over top companies like #Amazon, #Microsoft and #Google, according to Interbrandβs latest annual rankings. Although there has been some shifting around in positions, all of the brands in the top 10 last year remained there this year.
Of the 43% of brands that benefited from a lift in value this year, #Amazon (60%) and #Microsoft (53%) were the fastest risers. #Spotify also had a significant increase, up 52% to $8.4 billion (#70).
Other fast-risers this year include:
- #Netflix: +41% to $12.7 billion (#41);
- #Adobe: +41% to $18.2 billion (#27);
- #PayPal: +38% to $10.5 billion (#60);
- #Apple: +38% to $323 billion (#1); and
- #Salesforce: +34% to $10.8 billion (#58).
This year, five brands dropped off the top 100 list, making room for five new entrants. One of those new entrants is #Instagram, which makes its debut to the list at #19 with a brand value of $26.1 billion. #YouTube (#30) joins Instagram on the list of new entrants with a brand value of $17.3 billion. Both of these brands are also favorites among social media marketers.
The remaining three new entrants are:
- #Tesla (#40; $12.8 billion);
- #JohnnieWalker (#98; $4.6 billion); and
- #Zoom (#100; $4.5 billion)
