What else is wrong with the DNB bank.

Got a scam-call from some kumars, where they asked me to find a Windows key on the Mac keyboard and also tried to dictate a shell script over the phone.

Charged a Ruter card for an upcoming month. Tried to activate it right away - terminal shown me that I still have 2 days on my previous ticket. Okay, I thought, the new ticket will start after the current one expires - something you would expect to be by design, at least that's the way it worked in Moscow.

One week later a ticket-control at T-bane asked me for my ticket. I shown it to them, and they told me that it is not activated. And right after that they shown me their terminal with their system where it was clearly marked that I purchased my ticket a week ago and tried to activate it. But since I did it before the previous ticket expired, they explained, the new one did not activate.

So what is the fucking point in storing all that information in your system, if it is not used for anything? Why on earth wouldn't the new ticket activate after the previous one expires, if user explicitly tried to activate it? Bloody hell.

Good thing they let me go without paying any fine, although they said that they put me in some "system". Well, I'll know better next time.

Qt's marketing team has switched to yet another CMS, and of course everything looks like shit now. Actually, they did it a couple of months ago or so, but I didn't have time to write about it earlier.

O-oh, so maybe you shouldn't listen to every single whimsy idiot, who's getting offended by random things (a small christmas hat in this case). What a surprise, turns out much more (sane) people didn't like that, who would have thought.

Что-то, блядь, до хуя развелось всяких обидчивых уебанов.

The addic7ed.com website has been degrading for some years (slow backend, porno ads all over the place), and by now it has became simply retarded. Just look at this - the very first click anywhere on the page will open some shitty porn/scam/whatever resource. I asked for some comments at their IRC channel, but they did not seem to care much.

By the way, the dropdown list with all the shows, seasons and episodes stopped working long time ago.

Fortunately, thanks to tools like addic7ed-cli, you don't need to visit this piece of shit of a website anymore.

After BlueMail e-mail client sued Apple for removing BlueMail application from the App Store, I've learnt about BlueMail's existence. And since I am constantly looking for a The Bat! alternative on Mac OS, I installed BlueMail to try it out.

And I uninstalled it a couple of minutes later, because:

1. It is based on Electron, so it automatically goes to hell;
2. Apparently, adding an e-mail account means that BlueMail will store your credentials on BlueMail servers. I can't even start to explain how retarded that is. As far as I remember, Spark e-mail client does the same.

Can you believe this fucking "modern" "software development".

A month ago or so Slack introduced a new design. And what you couldn't miss is that the search bar now occupies the full-page-width block on top. What a brilliant idea.

But not as brilliant as the fact that there is no option to disable/hide it. Official Slack response to that is: "After we tested with users directly, we found that moving our search bar front and center better matches our customers’ expectations". Which fucking users? Who are these idiots? I am not one of them, can I have an option to hide/disable the search bar? To which Slack replies: "We don't have plans to make the search bar hideable at the moment".

Yeah, no worries, I'll just do it with CSS then:

div.p-client_container > div.p-client {
display: block;
}
div.p-client > div.p-workspace {
min-height: 100%;
}
div.p-client > div.p-top_nav {
display: none;
}

...Can everybody just come to their senses and start using IRC again?

Xcode 12.0.1 has been released. How about that, huh.

As it is impossible to get rid of Apple TV fullscreen update prompts using standard settings, one way of blocking Apple TV updates is to blacklist Apple update domains.

If you'll ever need to automate package promotion in Azure DevOps Artifacts feeds, this can be done via REST API.

1Password 8 will be an Electron-based application. That is by far the most reliable way to turn your application into shit.
Like the post says, it's hilarious how 2 people could make a native application, but 473 couldn't.

There also will be no option anymore to have a standalone one-time purchase license, so the subscription license will be forced for everyone. That is the second best way to make a pile of shit out of your application.

And apparently, it won't be possible to use iCloud/Dropbox/etc for syncing the vaults, and no way to have "offline" vaults too! The actual fuck.

If for some reasons I won't be able to keep 1Password 7 working on my Mac OS and iOS devices, I guess I'll have to switch to KeePass - I have already been using it on Windows, as 1Password 7 for Windows was a piece of crap from the beginning (and with 1Password 8 it will be just total shit).

That is one more case when I regret that I purchased a software license instead of pirating it.

My Apple Watch has 21.4 GB of free space (out of total 32 GB), and yet somehow I don't have enough storage for music. Apple, I can't come up with any reasonable explanation for this except for the one that you all went into fully retarded mode there.

Twenty gigabytes is not bloody enough? Go fuck yourself, Apple.

Looks like The Qt Company has blocked access from russian IP-addresses to Qt Account (and so the installer too). No official statement yet, as far as I can see, only this forum thread.

As bugreports, wiki and forum are also tied to Qt Account, it's likely that those will (already are?) become unavailable too (for reporting bugs, editing articles and posting, but perhaps even for viewing as well).

Fucking Apple can't live a day without dumping more shit on its users, and this time they killed flag icons for input sources in Mac OS 12.4.

Fortunately, soon enough external developers created applications that bring back this functionality. So far I've discovered these two:

1. Colorful Input Menu Flags | $1
2. Keyboard Switcheroo | $2

The second one has nicer icons and more advanced functionality, but it's two times more expensive! So I've settled with the first one for now.

Thank you, Apple, exactly what I've been asking for: to lose some more out-of-the-box functionality and to spend some more money.

Ha, I've just noticed that The Qt Company removed russian subforum from the International section.

The reason for this I can probably guess, but russian-speaking people live not only in Russia, and a good portion of them aren't even Russian citizens, let alone certainly not everyone supporting the war. So what a brilliant idea it was to block the entire language for the whole planet.

And yeah, fuck all the knowledge collected there over the years too.

I usually get about 800 unique visitors on my website per day. But a couple of days ago I noticed a big spike to more than 35 000 visitors in just one day.

As it turned out, all those thousands of visitors were from ChatGPT, and it was requests to a picture file - yes, several thousands of requests from different IP addresses for the same bloody picture file (just the file, not the article where this picture was posted), resulting in more than 28 GB of transferred data.

I have very little interest in such traffic, so I blocked ChatGPT bot (and this one too) in robots.txt:

User-agent: GPTBot
Disallow: /

User-agent: ChatGPT-User
Disallow: /

And then the traffic went down to its usual volume shortly after, as you can see on the graphs.

The wonders of modern technologies.

I've been using Oracle Cloud Free Tier for 2.5 years, and it was indeed absolutely free of charge, which was really great while it lasted.

But two days ago my website suddenly went down along with the server and all the content on it. Without a notice/warning, with no explanation and without a way to restore the data (fortunately, I haven't actually lost any).
