Mouth ulcers are caused due to various reasons like stress, hormonal changes, certain vitamin and mineral deficiency, some allergies, viral infections, etc.

Generally mouth ulcers disappear on its own in a week or two. If the mouth ulcer lasts for more than 3 weeks, it is better to consult your dentist who may check the root cause. If the mouth ulcer was a normal one it has to be kept in mind that poor oral hygiene can also be one of the cause. So maintaining a good oral hygiene prevents most dental issues.
