As the outbreak of war in Iran shifts media and public attention toward military and political developments, the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC) will continue to prioritize its core mission, documenting and reporting violations of the rights of civilians and ordinary citizens. Experience has shown that in times of armed conflict, domestic repression often intensifies, and pressure on dissidents, protesters, and critics may increase.
In such circumstances, arbitrary arrests, intimidation, violence, sweeping communication restrictions, and other forms of human rights violations may be carried out with greater severity. There is also a heightened risk that authorities may resort to coercive measures and harsher tactics to deter or prevent public protests. These developments must not be overlooked amid the noise and urgency of war.
As in the past, IHRDC remains prepared to receive and review reports concerning arrests, enforced disappearances, threats, violence, communication blackouts, and other violations affecting civilians. Any credible report, document, image, or firsthand account can contribute to accurate documentation and help prevent abuses from going unrecorded or unanswered.
We remain committed to serving as a voice for civilians and to publishing human rights reporting that is professional, independent, and evidence-based. Given the prevailing security environment, renewed internet shutdowns, and restrictions on access to independent information, verification of some reports may be challenging. Nevertheless, responsible documentation and the protection of sources remain central to our work.
