According to HRANA, the hunger strike began following a violent raid by over 100 special forces from the prison’s security units and agents from the Ministry of Intelligence. During the raid, at least seventeen political prisoners were forcibly removed and transferred to solitary confinement cells in Units 1 and 3. The names of these prisoners are:

Zartosht Ahmadi Ragheb, Ahmadreza Haeri, Arsham Rezaei, Reza Salmanzadeh, Mohammad Shafei, Akbar Bagheri, Sepehr Emamjomeh, Loqman Aminpour, Meysam Dehban Zadeh, Reza Mohammad Hosseini, Mostafa Ramezani, Abolhassan Montazer, Salahuddin Ziaei, Ali Moezzi, Hamzeh Savari, Khosrow Rahnama, and Asadollah Hadi.

During the assault, several prisoners were beaten, the ward’s phone lines were cut, and many were violently dragged to solitary cells. Additionally, Saeed Masouri was separated from other prisoners to be exiled to Zahedan Prison, while Behrouz Ehsani Eslamlou and Mehdi Hassani were isolated in preparation for execution.

Mostafa Ramezani, a political prisoner held at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, reported that he was subjected to verbal abuse, sexual insults, and physical assault while visiting the prison’s central infirmary on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

According to Ramezani, Hamid Asadi, an officer present at the infirmary who “clearly did not appear to be in a normal state,” used obscene and degrading language and directed sexual insults at Ramezani and members of his family. Ramezani stated that Asadi deliberately disrupted his medical treatment before enlisting the assistance of other officers to beat him.

Ramezani further stated: “I had no pre-existing physical or psychological condition. Everything that has happened to me is the result of the conduct of incompetent medical personnel serving the Islamic Republic.”

He described the incident as part of a longstanding pattern of mistreatment targeting political prisoners across Iran’s prison system.
