Seventeen political prisoners held in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj were transferred to solitary confinement on Saturday, July 26, 2025, and have since launched a collective hunger strike in protest against the systematic violence by security forces targeting political prisoners in Ward 4 of the prison.

According to HRANA, the hunger strike began following a violent raid by over 100 special forces from the prison’s security units and agents from the Ministry of Intelligence. During the raid, at least seventeen political prisoners were forcibly removed and transferred to solitary confinement cells in Units 1 and 3. The names of these prisoners are:

Zartosht Ahmadi Ragheb, Ahmadreza Haeri, Arsham Rezaei, Reza Salmanzadeh, Mohammad Shafei, Akbar Bagheri, Sepehr Emamjomeh, Loqman Aminpour, Meysam Dehban Zadeh, Reza Mohammad Hosseini, Mostafa Ramezani, Abolhassan Montazer, Salahuddin Ziaei, Ali Moezzi, Hamzeh Savari, Khosrow Rahnama, and Asadollah Hadi.

During the assault, several prisoners were beaten, the ward’s phone lines were cut, and many were violently dragged to solitary cells. Additionally, Saeed Masouri was separated from other prisoners to be exiled to Zahedan Prison, while Behrouz Ehsani Eslamlou and Mehdi Hassani were isolated in preparation for execution.

According to information received, on June 9, following the publication of an audio message by Zartosht Ahmadi Ragheb, a political prisoner held in Ghezel Hesar Prison, he was transferred from Ward 16 of the prison to an undisclosed location. Since then, no reliable information has been available regarding either his whereabouts or his condition.

According to the same information, inquiries by his fellow prisoners indicate that Ahmadi Ragheb is being held neither in the solitary confinement cells of Ward 16 nor in Ward 2 or its solitary confinement section.

Informed sources believe he may have been taken out of the prison for interrogation by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence. However, no official authority has confirmed this.

The lack of information about Zartosht Ahmadi Ragheb's whereabouts for several days, coupled with the absence of any contact or information regarding his place of detention, has heightened concerns about his health and safety. Some sources, citing his history of legal advocacy and peaceful civil activism, speculate that he may have gone on a hunger strike in protest of his conditions or may be held in inappropriate conditions. However, neither of these claims has been independently verified.
