Arsalan Yazdani, a 43-year-old Baha’i resident of Karaj, was arrested at his home by security forces on Saturday, August 22, 2026, and transferred to Greater Tehran Prison to begin serving a three-year prison sentence. During the arrest, the agents also confiscated several personal belongings belonging to Yazdani and his family, including mobile phones and a laptop.
According to information received by the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center, Yazdani’s sentence, which had previously included five years of enforceable imprisonment, was reduced to three years on appeal. He has now been imprisoned to serve this three-year sentence.
In a video recorded before his sentence was reduced, Yazdani said that he had been sentenced to five years in prison for “membership in the Baha’i community” and an additional year for “disseminating propaganda against the Islamic Republic,” with five years enforceable under Iran’s sentencing rules for multiple convictions. This explains why he refers to a five-year sentence in the video, although he was ultimately arrested to serve a reduced three-year term.
