Five prisoners were executed at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, Alborz Province, early on Wednesday, July 15. One of them was Aref Khoshkar, who had been detained during Iran’s 2022 nationwide protests. The four others had been sentenced to death on murder charges. One of them has been identified as Abbas Nesari.

At the same time, prisoners in Unit 2 refused their food rations for a third consecutive day and continued a sit-in to protest the executions and the transfer of six death-row prisoners to solitary confinement ahead of the implementation of their sentences. Reports indicate that the health of at least one hunger striker has deteriorated.

Holding signs reading No to Executions, the protesting prisoners called for an end to the implementation of death sentences, particularly in cases involving drug related offenses.

در زندان قزل‌حصار کرج، سحرگاه چهارشنبه ۲۴ تیر، حکم اعدام پنج زندانی اجرا شد. یکی از آنان عارف خوشکار، از بازداشت‌شدگان اعتراضات سراسری ۱۴۰۱، بود. چهار زندانی دیگر با اتهام قتل به اعدام محکوم شده بودند که هویت عباس نثاری از میان آنان اعلام شده است.
همزمان، زندانیان واحد ۲ این زندان برای سومین روز متوالی از دریافت جیره غذایی خودداری کرده و در اعتراض به اجرای احکام اعدام و انتقال شش محکوم به سلول‌های انفرادی دست به تحصن زدند. گزارش‌ها از نامساعد شدن وضعیت جسمانی دست‌کم یکی از اعتصاب‌کنندگان خبر می‌دهد. زندانیان معترض با شعار «نه به اعدام» خواستار توقف اجرای احکام، به‌ویژه در پرونده‌های مرتبط با مواد مخدر، شده‌اند.
