Abol (Hamid) Kourkour, a protester from Izeh who had been living in hiding for the past two years, died by suicide on Saturday, March 8, 2025, after security forces surrounded his residence and opened fire.
After the siege began, Kourkour went live on his Instagram account, announcing that security forces had attacked his home. In the video, as gunfire continued, he repeatedly shouted that they were surrendering, but the shooting did not stop. Ultimately, he said, "I have no choice. Goodbye, Iran," and ended his life with a gunshot under his chin.
Foad Choubin, the uncle of Artin Rahmani, a protester killed in the 2022 nationwide protests, wrote on his Instagram page that three others were in the house with Kourkour during the siege: Reza Abdollahzadeh, Hossein Mehri, and Sohrab Ahmadi. Citing a reliable source, he stated that after these three surrendered, security forces continued shooting at them and before anyone could leave the house, threw a grenade inside and blew it up. There is no confirmed information on their status, and the city remains under heavy security control.
Security officials have placed immense pressure on Kourkour's family to prevent them from holding any ceremonies, and his body has not yet been handed over. Meanwhile, the police commander of Izeh stated that in an operation to arrest "criminals," several people were injured and arrested, and one person committed suicide.

According to a report published by Foad Choobin, the uncle of Artin Rahmani, who was killed during the nationwide protests of 2022, security forces raided the village of Pian, Rahmani’s birthplace in Izeh County, on April 28, 2026.
He stated that, “In the early hours of April 28, 2026, plainclothes agents, accompanied by law enforcement forces, carried out a raid on Pian village in Khuzestan Province.” According to local residents, a large number of vehicles, some reportedly equipped with heavy weapons, entered the village, and armed forces attacked civilians.
The raid resulted in significant damage to residents’ property. Local sources report that several shops were destroyed and goods inside them were confiscated by the agents. Reports also indicate that a number of residents were injured and several others were arrested.
Choobin further stated: “Arezou Malmeli was injured after being struck by a bullet.” It has also been reported that Karamat Kouchaki sustained a head injury caused by gunfire, and that Heybatollah Abbasi was also wounded. In addition, many residents were detained. The names of some of those arrested include Alborz Ramezani, Arad Kouchaki, Ehsan Taghizadeh, Fardad Rahmani, Asghar Bodaghi, Hamzeh Ramezani, and Mohammad Salahshour.
He also reported acts of intimidation by security forces, stating: “Agents carried out graffiti throughout the village.” According to him, slogans such as “First wave, we will return,” and “Labbaik Ya Khamenei” (“At your service, Khamenei”) were written on walls. He added that a photograph of his nephew, Artin Rahmani, which had been installed in the village, was also destroyed by the agents.
