The Kurdistan Human Rights Network has reported that Esmaeil Ramezanpour, a 38-year-old man originally from Fars Province and residing in Yazd, has been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Yazd. He was arrested by security forces during the January 2026 protests.

According to the report, Ramezanpour was transferred to a security detention facility in Yazd following his arrest, where he was allegedly subjected to torture and pressure aimed at forcing him to confess during interrogations. The report states that he was later transferred to Yazd Central Prison after the interrogation process ended.

The report, citing an informed source, states that the judicial proceedings against this political prisoner failed to meet fair trial standards and that he was denied access to a lawyer of his own choosing. According to the source, Yazd Revolutionary Court sentenced Ramezanpour to death on charges including “waging war against God” (moharebeh), assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security, and intentional destruction of public property.

Part of the case against him reportedly involves allegations that he set fire to the Yazd municipality building with the stated intent of “confronting the Islamic Republic.”

According to the report, the death sentence was formally communicated to the political prisoner some time ago while he was being held in Yazd Central Prison.
