Hadi Abbasian, a resident of Shirvan, North Khorasan province, has been transferred to the city’s prison following his arrest by security forces of the Islamic Republic. Reports received indicate that security agents raided his home on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, violently assaulted him during the arrest, and beat him so severely that he lost consciousness. He was reportedly taken first to a hospital and later transferred to Shirvan Prison. Images published after the raid show extensive damage and disorder inside his home.

According to informed sources, Abbasian’s arrest is linked to his support for the nationwide protests of January 2026. He had previously posted videos on social media expressing support for protesters and their demands.

Two days after his arrest, state-affiliated media outlets released a video described as a “confession” by Abbasian. Iran’s Mehr News Agency, quoting local police and judicial officials in Shirvan, accused him of participating in the protests, “encouraging unrest,” and spreading reports related to his alleged death. Authorities further claimed that he had attempted to stage a “fake killing scenario.”

The prosecutor of Shirvan also alleged that Abbasian had used social media to encourage people to engage in “rioting” and “destruction of public property.” However, no independent evidence has been presented to substantiate these claims, and judicial and security authorities have provided no information regarding his condition, access to legal counsel, or the circumstances of his detention.

In recent years, the Islamic Republic’s security and judicial authorities have repeatedly relied on forced confessions from detainees, particularly in political and security-related cases, as grounds for issuing harsh sentences and securing convictions.
