Kaveh Arabian, a 32-year-old man detained during the January 2026 protests in Yazd, has been transferred from the city's Central Prison to an undisclosed location, raising serious concerns that his execution may be imminent. His death sentence was previously upheld by the Supreme Court.
According to a report by Iran Human Rights, Arabian was removed from the general ward of Yazd Central Prison on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 28, after a final visit with his family. An informed source told the organization that he had been transferred for the carrying out of his death sentence. The source also said that security authorities had repeatedly warned his family not to speak publicly about the case or seek support from human rights organizations or other groups.
Arabian was arrested in Yazd on January 12, 2026. At the time of his arrest, he was the father of a two-month-old infant and the sole provider for both his immediate family and his parents. According to published reports, he was denied the right to choose his own lawyer and was not even provided with a court-appointed attorney during the legal proceedings.
Branch 1 of the Yazd Revolutionary Court sentenced Arabian to death on charges including waging war against God (Moharebeh) through disrupting national security, arson of public property, and the killing of a Basij member. The sentence was later upheld by Branch 9 of the Supreme Court.
Iran Human Rights previously reported that Arabian was held for 68 days in an IRGC Intelligence detention facility, where he was allegedly subjected to torture in an effort to extract forced confessions. Two other defendants in the same case, Ali Daneshparvar and Esmail Ramezanpour, have also been sentenced to death, while their cases remain pending before the Supreme Court.
