Tayebeh Nazari Makiabadi, the mother of Maryam Arvin, a lawyer from Sirjan who died in 2023 under suspicious circumstances, has been sentenced to four years in prison by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad.

According to a copy of the verdict obtained by the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC), Nazari was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment on charges of assembly and collusion against national security and one year for disseminating propaganda against the Islamic Republic. Under Article 134 of Iran’s Islamic Penal Code, only the harsher sentence—four years in prison—will be enforceable.

The court cited her social media activities in support of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, as well as her participation in the December 12, 2025 protest gathering in Mashhad marking the seventh-day memorial ceremony of Khosrow Alikordi, as evidence supporting the charges against her.

Nazari is the mother of Maryam Arvin, a lawyer from Sirjan who was arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022 and died under suspicious circumstances in February 2023, shortly after her release from detention. The verdict may be appealed within 20 days of notification.
