The Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners has issued a statement warning about the conditions faced by women prisoners in Yazd Prison, describing the situation in the women’s ward as inhumane. According to the information released, a number of detainees arrested during recent protests are facing harsh sentences sentences or prolonged legal uncertainty while being held in conditions that have raised serious concerns about their physical and psychological well-being.

According to the published information, some of the detained women have reportedly been prosecuted solely for social media-related activities, including reposting content or reacting to online posts, and have subsequently faced severe punishments.

The statement also highlights the lack of separation of crimes within the women’s ward of Yazd Prison. Political detainees and prisoners of conscience are reportedly being held alongside inmates convicted of drug-related offenses, a situation human rights advocates say places additional psychological pressure on the detainees and threatens their safety and well-being.

In another part of the statement, concern was expressed over the condition of Kurdish political prisoner Zeinab Jalalian. Having spent years in exile imprisonment, she is reportedly in urgent need of medical treatment, and continued deprivation of adequate healthcare could place her at serious risk of vision loss.
