🇵🇸 Gaza death toll could reach half a million: Lancet

Israel's assault on Gaza could lead to between 149,000 and 598,000 Palestinian deaths if it were to end immediately, as estimated by experts for The Lancet.

The medical journal published a research correspondence between physicians and public health experts on 5 July on the difficulty of accounting for the number of those killed by Israel's war on Gaza, highlighting that both direct and indirect deaths should be considered.

The Gaza Health Ministry has reported over 38,000 Palestinians killed since the beginning of the war.

But counting the dead and injured has become increasingly difficult for the ministry as the war drags on, now entering its tenth month, the contributors wrote.

🇵🇸 Israeli army launches new, massive wave of forced displacement against the people of Gaza City and North Gaza

Palestinian Territory – The Israeli army began waging a new war of terror early this morning, forcibly displacing the people living in Gaza City and North Gaza and causing another massive wave of internal displacement. This is part of Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, ongoing since 7 October 2023.

Tens of thousands of Gazans were displaced from multiple areas of Gaza City, and now have nowhere left to go, amid conflicting displacement orders issued by the Israeli army and no safe passages. This comes along with the Israeli military’s systematic and widespread genocidal war of starvation and deliberate, indiscriminate killing of Palestinian civilians in the Strip.

🇵🇸I’m bored, so I shoot’: The Israeli army’s approval of free-for-all violence in Gaza

In early June, AJ aired a series of disturbing videos revealing what it described as “summary executions”: Israeli soldiers shooting dead several Palestinians walking near the coastal road in the Gaza Strip, on three separate occasions. In each case, the Palestinians appeared unarmed and did not pose any imminent threat to the soldiers.

Such footage is rare, due to the severe constraints faced by journalists in the besieged enclave and the constant danger to their lives. But these executions, which did not appear to have any security rationale, are consistent with the testimonies of six Israeli soldiers who spoke to +972 and LC following their release from active duty in #Gaza in recent months. Corroborating the testimonies of Palestinian eyewitnesses and doctors throughout the war, the soldiers described being authorized to open fire on Palestinians virtually at will, including civilians.

15 years just to clear Gaza rubble - UN

A United Nations study has estimated it will cost up to $600 million for a fleet of 100 lorries to clear the rubble left by Israel's devastating campaign in the Gaza Strip, before a full reconstruction of the area can fully begin.

The UN Environment Programme believes 137,297 buildings had been damaged in Gaza, more than half of the total, while up to 1,235 acres of landfill sites could be needed to accommodate the waste, depending on what could be recycled.

The project to completely rebuild infrastructure will cost upwards of $40 billion.
