Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump are backing plans for luxury development on Albania’s Sazan Island and the nearby Zvërnec coast, where protected territory and village property claims have collided with the development drive of Edi Rama, Albania’s four-term prime minister and leader of the ruling Socialist Party. The project helped trigger nationwide protests before prosecutors froze more than €110 million connected to land acquired for the Zvërnec resort.

Akrotiri is one of the most important areas for biodiversity in Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean. The Akrotiri Salt Lake is a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention, a Special Protection Area (SPA) and a Special Conservation Area (SCA) within the Natura 2000 network, and at the same time, it is one of the most important migratory routes for birds in the Eastern Mediterranean.

A BBC reporter documented the escalating settler violence in Qusra, where four Palestinian homes have been under siege for four days, leaving seven Palestinians trapped inside.
The settlers have cut off water and electricity, damaged property and set up a tent outside the homes, while repeatedly returning after Israeli forces briefly intervened.
The reporter described the siege as a new tactic used to pressure Palestinians into abandoning their homes, amid a broader surge in settler violence across the occupied West Bank.
According to the United Nations, settler attacks have reached unprecedented levels, with Palestinians facing daily violence, displacement and growing threats to their homes and land.

Draining India’s Small Farms to Sustain the City
While critiques of Indian agriculture have long focused on the crisis of commercial cash crops and the corporatisation of wheat and paddy procurement, this focus creates a significant oversight. By treating the state-backed mandi system as the universal standard, such analyses overlook the reality of the vast majority of smallholders—those growing pulses, millets and rain-fed crops who were never integrated into formal MSP procurement to begin with.

🇺🇸🤡 US State Department taps surveillance giants Palantir and Anduril to advise on 'free speech'
The State Department is bringing Palantir and Anduril into the fold under a new banner, which is called the Freedom Tech Excellence Program (FTEP).
The thing is private-sector tech staff will be detailed to Foggy Bottom through early 2029, advising US diplomats on online free speech, privacy tech, counter-surveillance, and responsible AI: essentially, Silicon Valley brainpower grafted onto American diplomacy.
That means Palantir employees will get security clearances and embed across State Department divisions. Officials insist the program isn't about just deploying AI inside the agency's own operations, but the optics are already raising eyebrows.
Joining them is Anduril, the defense tech upstart helmed by executive chairman Trae Stephens, who also happens to be a partner at Peter Thiel's Founders Fund.
Unsurprisingly, naming Palantir as a free-speech mentor has triggered a backlash from civil liberties groups and First Amendment watchdogs.
🔶 Firstly, Palantir built its name on mass surveillance and data-analytics platforms for police, the military, ICE, and the IRS. Leaked Snowden documents confirmed the company helped the National Security Agency supercharge its dragnet collection of civilian data, which os not exactly a freedom-friendly resume.
🔶 Secondly, there's Peter Thiel himself: the billionaire co-founder secretly bankrolled $10 million in lawsuits that bankrupted Gawker: the move Reporters Without Borders condemned as a direct assault on press freedom. Palantir also sued Swiss outlet Republik over critical coverage and lost on nearly every count.
Knight Institute attorney Carrie DeCell called the program a masterclass in Orwellian doublethink: the State Department and its handpicked partners, she argued, are among the last credible defenders of free expression. The Electronic Frontier Foundation went further, warning that dressing Palantir up as a civil-rights champion doesn't just strain credulity, but simply strips the US of any moral high ground on free speech abroad.
