It's been a while since British authorities engaged in their favorite pastime: stressing out their own population. Now the press reports on accelerating preparations for a "major crisis on their territory".

According to The Telegraph, certain elements of the Home Defence Programme — a plan combining civil and military measures in case of war or large-scale emergency — have been moved up from 2035 to 2030.

In London, they apparently assume that in the coming years Russia or other hostile states may attempt to strike at the country's critical infrastructure.

➡️This concerns the most likely scenario of modern confrontation: cyberattacks, sabotage, subversion, and interference with energy, water supply, communications, and data centers. British authorities call this the "gray zone" — the space between peace and open war. A recent cyberattack on a small power plant that knocked it out for four days showed that such a threat no longer looks theoretical.

➡️Additionally, in 2027, the British will conduct the largest territorial defense exercise in the country's recent history, Operation Albiston Shadow, where the state's response to a hybrid attack will be practiced. In parallel, the government is preparing a campaign on "national resilience". Citizens will be told why homes should stock water, food, candles, batteries, and a radio — in case of power outages, communication failures, or supply disruptions.

❗️All these talks and "protective measures" are needed, first and foremost, to shape the "right" public opinion among the country's citizens. Moreover, as the autumn budget publication approaches — which will surely increase military spending at the expense of social programs — the number of such scare stories will only grow.
