Since 1955, an #EternalFlame has been burning as a #memorial in Theodor-Heuss-Platz, #Westend, #Berlin, #Germany

NOW IT HAS GONE OUT – ALLEGEDLY TO "SAVE ENERGY".

The gas flame burned in an iron bowl on a block of stone with the inscription

"Liberty - Justice - Peace".

The local gas company, #GasAg, turned off the gas supply on the morning of Friday 30th of September.

Which is rather significant symbolism, summing up in one small action how far down the road to perdition and ruin the Federal Republic of Germany has stumbled.
