🇬🇷🇹🇷 Who exactly is Israel to “authorize” Greece to do anything?

A popular account calling itself “Israel Gov News” has declared that Israel has “authorized” Greece to extend its territorial waters from 6 to 12 nautical miles and promised to “completely destroy” anyone who attacks Greece.

Greece requires no authorization from Israel to determine its territorial waters.

But the rhetoric comes amid a very real and rapidly expanding Israeli-Greek military relationship. Days ago, Greece signed a €3 billion agreement for an Israeli-built Achilles Shield air-defense network, as tensions with Turkey over the Aegean and Eastern #Mediterranean continue.

Israel and #Turkey are themselves increasingly at odds across the region, particularly over #Syria.

Greece should be extremely wary of allowing itself to become another front in somebody else’s confrontation.

Moazzam Begg was seized in Islamabad in February 2002 and held at #Kandahar, #Bagram and #Guantanamo for nearly three years. He was released in January 2005 without ever being charged.

In 2014 he was charged again, over travel to #Syria. Those charges collapsed when it emerged MI5 had known of and consented to his journey. In August 2025 he was arrested in Parliament Square for holding a placard, one of more than 500 detained that day under the #UKTerrorismAct.

Now outreach director at #CAGE International, he joins Middle East Eye to examine what became of the cases that justified this era's laws.

Hamid Hayat, convicted in 2006 on the word of a paid informant, walked free in 2019. Dr Ali al-Timimi, sentenced to life in 2005 for a speech, was fully acquitted in March 2026 on free speech grounds.

Guantanamo is still open. Fifteen men remain. The trial of the man accused of planning 9/11 is now listed for 2028.

Church bombing in occupied Syria amid growing internal unrest:

Another church has been bombed inside occupied Syria, a familiar pattern whenever the rebranded terrorist leadership faces mounting internal chaos.

The rebranded terrorist #Julani has repeatedly used security incidents and staged narratives to project an image of control and reclaim lost legitimacy across the Syrian territories under his rule. As public anger grows, sudden explosions and “terrorist incidents” increasingly coincide with moments of political and economic crisis.

Today, protests erupted across Syria after the so-called Syrian government decided to raise fuel prices, triggering widespread demonstrations and road closures as anger over deteriorating living conditions intensified.

Major roads blocked during the protests included:

• Aleppo–Damascus international highway at Maarrat al-Numan.

• Idlib–Damascus highway.

• Azaz–Aleppo highway.

• Tal Tamr M4 international highway.

• Deir ez-Zor–Aleppo highway.

• Deir ez-Zor–Hasakah highway.

The protests expanded into new cities, while regime forces reportedly opened fire on demonstrators in an attempt to suppress the growing unrest.

Amid this escalating internal crisis, a sudden explosion struck a church in Hama.

An explosive device targeted a church in the Al-Madina neighborhood of Hama city, leaving multiple people injured.

Many believe the timing was not coincidental. The bombing is an attempt by the Al-Qaeda-led so-called Syrian government to divert attention from the rapidly expanding protests, create a new security narrative, and slow the momentum of the nationwide demonstrations against its rule.

Information regarding the sending of young men from Tripoli (#Libya)to #Syria for military training, without informing them about the nature of the missions they would be assigned.

The "Al-Amshat" and "Al-Hamzat" factions sent members from their ranks to fight alongside #Saudi forces against "#AnsarAllah" [#YAF] in #Yemen in exchange for high monthly salaries.

Estimates suggest that around two thousand Syrian fighters are likely to be transferred to Yemen via #Turkey and then Saudi Arabia.
