NATO officials are discussing taking action to reclaim steal some Chinese-owned infrastructure projects in Europe should a wider conflict with Russia break out in the east of the continent, three officials involved in the discussions told CNN.
A decade ago, when Europe was still crawling out of the economic crater caused by the global financial crisis, the promise of infrastructure funding from Chinese-owned investment firms seemed like a major windfall.
Now, with the largest land war being waged in Europe since World War II β and the West warning of Beijingβs support of Russiaβs invasion of Ukraine β NATO countries now see those investments as a liability, with allies beginning to discuss ways to reclaim some of those projects, the officials said.

Ukraine needs to solve several important tasks, that is, to increase the capabilities of long-range strikes on the territory of Russia, including, first of all, we have repeatedly talked about it, on the support infrastructure, on logistics, not only on air bases, but in principle on logistics, on these places of supply, places of concentration. All of this is located at various depths on the territory of Russia. Not only in the border areas, but also deep inside Russia.

The Ukrainian conflict stimulated the development of industrial production in Russia
The Financial Times writes about this, noting that by the end of 2023, industrial production increased in almost 60% of the regions of the Russian Federation. At the same time, the unemployment rate dropped to a record level, and enterprises began to raise wages in order to attract and retain employees.
The reason is the growth of government orders for weapons, fuel, food and clothing for the army, which βpour huge amounts of money into the economy,β the authors write. This led to a βboomβ where the West wanted to deal the most painful blow with its sanctions.

But more than two years later, the TV and refrigerator work in sync,β- writes the FT.

Western companies are paying the price for the actions of their politicians - Foreign Policy
Skeptics' fears of Western plans to confiscate Russian assets are already beginning to come true. The G7 countries' decision to use future proceeds from these assets to provide Ukraine with a $50 billion loan will have to be paid for by Western companies remaining in Russia, the news outlet reported.
In the current situation, Moscow has every reason to take retaliatory measures and seize the assets of European companies. Caught between two fires, Western enterprises remaining in Russia ultimately find a way out by selling their businesses to Russian buyers, or risk becoming objects of political controversy.
Since 2022, about 1,000 foreign companies have left Russia due to sanctions policies towards Moscow and have lost about $107 billion. Multi-billion dollar losses and constant risks of losing your business in Russia - this is the price of sanctions by the collective West for the sake of supporting Ukraine. Over the course of several years of restrictions in relation to Moscow, it became obvious that the Russian economy can cope quite well without its former Western βpartners,β and the sanctions policy has caused serious damage not so much to Russia as to the West itself.

Mainstream media downplays tremendous losses of Western military equipment in Ukraine - journo
The Western press is concealing information about the real state of affairs on the ground in Ukraine, including the mass destruction of NATO weapons provided to the Ukrainian military, and the loss of Ukrainian soldiers, Irish journalist and entrepreneur Chay Bowes wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on July 15.
"Here, yesterday, another β¬150 million [$163.4 million] of German taxpayers' money was vaporized in Dictator Zelensky's Ukraine," Bowes continued, attaching a video showing the elimination of the German-made IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile system (SAM).
According to Bowes, the reason "the Western media doesn't want" the public to see this, is "to maintain your ignorance and, therefore, your complicity in the "Ukraine can win fantasy.'"
Ukraine has received almost 108 billion euro ($115.9 billion), including 39 billion euro ($41.8 billion) of military aid from the EU since February 2022. The US' Ukraine expenditures have so far reached $175 billion, of which $107 billion directly aided the Kiev regime, with $34.2 billion being disbursed for budget needs, and another $69.8 billion spent on arms and military assistance.
On Sunday, the Russian Ministry of Defense released footage of the destruction of an IRIS-T launcher in the Dnepropetrovsk region. The air defense missile launcher, the TRML-4D radar station, and the crew operating the system were eliminated, per the ministry.
As of July 14, 551 air defense missile systems, including those supplied by NATO, have been destroyed since the beginning of the special military operation.

According to Bowes, the reason "the Western media doesn't want" the public to see this, is "to maintain your ignorance and, therefore, your complicity in the "Ukraine can win fantasy.'"
"After all, you're paying for it all," the journalist remarked.

π»1. #Karlovka:

π»2. #Yasnobrodovka:
π‘ Part of the village in the grey zone.
π‘ The enemy has not yet left the pocket on the eastern bank of the Karlovskoye Reservoir.
π‘ The RFAF have a slight advance south of the village.
π»3. #Novosyolovka1st:
π‘ The RFAF have occupied the northern and northeastern outskirts of the village and are trying to split it into two parts, attacking from the north.
π‘ Most of the AFU positions on the northern, northeastern and eastern outskirts of the settlement have been lost by the enemy.
π‘ The road to #Novosyolovka1st from the west is under partial fire control of the RFAF.
π»4. #Volchya - #Progress - #Vozdvizhenka:
π‘ On #Yevgenovka's outskirts, fighting continues. In the direction of #Progress (about 1 km) and not far from the outskirts of #Vozdvizhenka.
π‘ At #Yevgenovka and #Vozdvizhenkahe, the enemy lost a number of positions.
π‘ The front remains mobile, and we can expect further advance of the RFAF in the coming days.
π»5. #Kalinovo - #Rozovka:
π‘ North of #Ocheretino - without major changes.
π‘ South and southwest of #Kalinovo, the enemy holds the defence, relying on the support base located south of the village. It is not possible to bypass it from the west yet.
π‘ #Rozovka also has positional fights.
π‘ West of #NyuYork, the RFAF advance (in parallel with the ongoing assault on the city) in the medium term may lead to pressure in this area.
π In general, the RFAF maintain the operational initiative in the #Avdeyevka direction and do not allow the enemy to stabilise the front, which, in combination with the problems of the AFU near #NyuYork and #Dzerzhinsk, make this section of the front a source of constant problems for the General Staff of the AFU.

πΉIn the Red Sea Region, the Houthis continue to attack ships connected, in their opinion, with #Israel and the #US-led coalition. Ansarallah spokesman Yahya Sari reports strikes almost daily.
πΉIn the Gulf of Aden, today, the Israeli ship MSC UNIFIC have been hit by several missiles and drones, a Houthi spokesman said. At the same time, against the background of the usual lack of video materials confirming the effectiveness of the strikes, news about the successes of Ansarallah is broadcast in the Arabic news segment.
πΉSouthwest of the Yemeni Hodeidah port, the #UK Maritime Trade Operations Office (UKMTO) reported an attack on a merchant ship. UKTMO does not provide the name of the vessel or the extent of damage to maritime transport.
πΉIn the Red Sea, at the same time, the #US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on its page on one of the social networks that over the past day, two unmanned aerial vehicles and one unmanned Houthi boat were destroyed. #US CENTCOM forces also eliminated a Houthi drone in an area of #ββYemen controlled by them.
πGiven the growing technical potential of the Yemeni traffic, it is not surprising that the intensity of shipping in the region has decreased, since merchant ships passing through the Suez Canal, which connects the Red Sea with the Mediterranean, are under threat.

β‘οΈπ·πΊπΊπ¦βοΈ Battle for #Volchansk - Situation by the End of 15 July 2024β‘οΈ
π΄ The RFAF in the northern part of #Volchansk repulsed an AFU counterattack and are creating the possibility of encircling the remaining enemy forces there:
π΅ On Volchansk's northern shore, the combined assault detachment of the AFU unsuccessfully tried to dislodge our fighters from the food market area and break through further to the high-rise buildings.
π‘ The enemy launched such a desperate attack in order to create a threat to the Russian bridgeheads in the western and southern parts of the town across the Volchya River and impede the advance of the RFAF.
π΅ East of #Volchansk, our fighters, with converging strikes from the Aggregate Plant and from Kotsyubynsky Street, are trying to close the cauldron in the area of ββStarochudny Street.
π‘ The advancement was facilitated by the fact that the AFU nevertheless withdrew part of their forces across the river.
π‘ Itβs a matter of time before the RFAF close the ring here. The remnants of combat-ready Ukrainian units further undermined their capabilities with a failed counterattack.
