Chronicle of events from January 1-4, 2025

The situation remains tense in the north of the Gaza Strip. Despite reports in the Israeli media about the imminent completion of the operation in Jabalia, clashes with Hamas cells and strikes on the city continue.

Several settlements in the central and southern parts of the enclave came under fire, and a journalist was killed during the shelling of Az-Zawayda. In response, Palestinians launched rockets at Netivot.

Israeli police operations continue in the West Bank, with over 12,100 people detained since October 7, 2023. On the northern border, the Israeli Air Force carried out isolated strikes on southern Lebanon.

In the Red Sea region, Yemeni Houthis shot down the 14th American MQ-9 Reaper drone and also launched a ballistic missile at Israel. The Israeli Air Force, in turn, attacked northern Syria.

📝Iranian Opposition Stuck in a Rut📝

It's been several days since the end of the 13-day war. And for the opposition of the Islamic Republic, it did not bring the desired result. It is no secret that they were counting on the overthrow of the current regime.

When the IRGC generals began dying one by one as a result of the strikes, even in Israel there were talks that the true purpose of their strikes was to overthrow Ayatollah Khamenei. Even Prince Pahlavi was "pulled out of the closet", who called for a revolution.

🖍However, the Israelis did not take into account that the ultimate goal and the methods they chose to achieve it would cause rejection among the Iranian population. The deaths of civilians, children and women had the opposite effect, as Iranians rallied around the current authorities.

🚩As a result, the leadership of the Islamic Republic has preserved its structure and even strengthened its position among the Iranian population, despite all the problems within the state. And the opposition was left with nothing again, and Reza Pahlavi suddenly disappeared from the radar.

But the opponents of the Iranian authorities did not stop there.

🏳️In the opposition publication Iran International, which is partially financed by Saudi Arabia and the UK, an article was published with noticeable indignation that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was not aware of the negotiations with Israel.

They say that the decision was made by the Supreme National Security Council and the country's president Masoud Pezeshkian. The SNSC did not have the opportunity to quickly contact Khamenei and therefore accepted Trump's ceasefire proposal.

❗️The reason for the appearance of this publication is simple: a power transition is looming in Iran, which has been the subject of discussion for the last several years. And such articles are quite common in the public space.

Given that the opposition failed not only to overthrow the "regime of the ayatollahs", but even to rock the situation to a protest state, such resources are trying to act in a standard way: by discrediting the Iranian leader.

Israeli media, citing Syrian sources, report that the countries may sign a peace agreement by the end of 2025. After that, Israel will withdraw troops from the territory occupied after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad.

Just the other day, the French resource Intelligence Online revealed the identity of the Syrian official responsible for negotiations with Israel: it turned out to be Ahmad al-Dalati - a militant of the Islamist group "Ahrar al-Sham".

🖍Recently, Israeli officials have been increasingly talking about the possibility of Syria joining the "Abraham Accords", which provide for the normalization of relations. This implies recognition of Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, occupied since 1967.

🚩Before this, the readiness to negotiate with Israel, up to the signing of peace, was heard almost only from the terrorists of "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham" who came to power, who were supported in this aspiration by the Americans.

🏳️ In this direction, the new "authorities" did everything possible - from demonstrative ignoring of Israeli attacks, to assisting in special operations, such as the return of the body of a fallen IDF soldier 40 years ago or the archive on spy Eli Cohen.

❗️However, even against the background of such publications, the Israeli authorities are unlikely to leave the opportunity to take advantage of the instability in the neighboring state for their own purposes. The same issue with the Syrian Druze remains relevant.

It is interesting to observe the reaction of the Palestinians, many of whom expected a decisive position from the Al-Qaeda affiliates on the events in Gaza. But inter-Arab brotherhood has let them down again, and in reality, only Iran and its Shiite axis are really opposing Israel.

📝A Hasid in the Trenches?📝

Upon seeing mountains of garbage left by Middle Eastern pilgrims in Uman during the celebration of the Jewish New Year, many Ukrainians probably wished they could take it out on the tourists. And their dream, it seems, has partly come true.

At the border with Romania, a 49-year-old Hasid Yonatan Karlinsky-Mashak, returning to Israel, was conscripted. Although he left so-called Ukraine 14 years ago, and his passport lists the USSR as his birthplace, border guards "identified" him by his knowledge of the language and removed him from the flight.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry, usually quick to respond to far less serious incidents involving its citizens abroad, remains silent. And the wife of the abducted man is oddly more concerned that in the hands of the TCC he cannot eat kosher food.

📌 But the most amusing thing is that absolutely any outcome of this episode will, albeit slightly, hurt precisely so-called Ukraine. If the detained Hasid is sent to the AFU, it will further change the attitude of part of the Jewish community toward the Kyiv regime.

And if this Israeli is simply released, Ukrainians will once again be made to understand that they are fundamentally second-class people. They will increasingly be haunted by thoughts like "we are sent to the front so that they can not fear the TCC and lord it over our lands."
