Ahmad Seyyed-Abdollahi, a psychologist and counselor from Borujen, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, has been held in Borujen Prison since July 7, 2026, to serve a seven-month prison sentence, while a separate case against him on charges of “disseminating propaganda against the Islamic Republic” remains under investigation.
Seyyed-Abdollahi was previously sentenced to seven months in prison and a five-year ban on public and government services in a case related to the publication and sharing of a political video. The video, which was in English and addressed to U.S. President Donald Trump, had been published online. After credit for his time already served in detention was applied, he has five months and seven days remaining of his sentence.
He was first arrested on January 14, 2026, by IRGC Intelligence forces at his parents’ home in Borujen. He spent approximately 32 days in solitary confinement before being transferred to an IRGC Intelligence detention facility in Isfahan. He was later released on 180 billion toumans (approximately $110,000) bail.
The psychologist was arrested again in late May 2026 in connection with a new case. He was released on July 4 after posting bail of 35 billion toumans (approximately $20,000), but was taken into custody again just two days later and transferred to Borujen Prison to begin serving his sentence in the first case.
During these periods of detention, Seyyed-Abdollahi was at times denied contact with his family and access to a lawyer of his own choosing. The continued proceedings in the second case, along with the reported restrictions imposed on him, have raised concerns about ongoing judicial pressure against the psychologist and counselor.
