Ahmad Seyyed-Abdollahi, a psychologist and counselor from Borujen, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, has been held in Borujen Prison since July 7, 2026, to serve a seven-month prison sentence, while a separate case against him on charges of “disseminating propaganda against the Islamic Republic” remains under investigation.
Seyyed-Abdollahi was previously sentenced to seven months in prison and a five-year ban on public and government services in a case related to the publication and sharing of a political video. The video, which was in English and addressed to U.S. President Donald Trump, had been published online. After credit for his time already served in detention was applied, he has five months and seven days remaining of his sentence.
He was first arrested on January 14, 2026, by IRGC Intelligence forces at his parents’ home in Borujen. He spent approximately 32 days in solitary confinement before being transferred to an IRGC Intelligence detention facility in Isfahan. He was later released on 18 billion toumans (approximately $110,000) bail.
The psychologist was arrested again in late May 2026 in connection with a new case. He was released on July 4 after posting bail of 3.5 billion toumans (approximately $20,000), but was taken into custody again just two days later and transferred to Borujen Prison to begin serving his sentence in the first case.
During these periods of detention, Seyyed-Abdollahi was at times denied contact with his family and access to a lawyer of his own choosing. The continued proceedings in the second case, along with the reported restrictions imposed on him, have raised concerns about ongoing judicial pressure against the psychologist and counselor.

Ahmad Seyyed-Abdollahi, a psychologist and counselor from Borujen in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, faces a separate charge of disseminating propaganda against the Islamic Republic while serving a seven-month sentence in Borujen Prison. According to information received by the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC), the prosecutor issued an indictment in the second case without holding an investigative hearing.
The Borujen Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor requested that the Revolutionary Court impose a sentence, citing “records transcribed from a mobile phone” and “the defendant’s failure to pursue his defense despite a summons and an arrest order.” The indictment describes Seyyed-Abdollahi as a “fugitive,” although information received by IHRDC indicates that he was in prison when it was issued.
In his first case, Seyyed-Abdollahi was sentenced to seven months in prison in connection with publishing and sending an English-language political video addressed to Donald Trump. Newly received information indicates that the sentence also includes a five-year ban on access to all social, public, and government services. His continued imprisonment and the restrictions imposed on him have left his family facing difficult circumstances.
Seyyed-Abdollahi was first arrested by IRGC Intelligence agents at his father’s home in Borujen on January 14, 2026. He spent approximately 32 days in solitary confinement before being transferred to an IRGC Intelligence detention facility in Isfahan. He was later released pending proceedings on bail of 18 billion toumans (approximately $110,000).
He was arrested again in late May 2026 and faced a second case. On July 4, he was released on bail of 3.5 billion toumans (approximately $20,000), but returned to Borujen Prison shortly afterward to serve the sentence imposed in his first case.
According to IHRDC’s previous reporting, Seyyed-Abdollahi was denied contact with his family and access to counsel of his choice during periods of his detention. The issuance of a new indictment without an investigative hearing, citing his failure to appear to defend himself while he was in prison, has heightened concerns about respect for his right to a defense and a fair trial.
