Shabana Mahmood proposes AI 'Panopticon' system of state surveillance |
"THE Home Secretary has said she wants to create a “Panopticon” system of state surveillance.
Shabana Mahmood revealed that she wanted a system where “the eyes of the state can be on you at all times” while invoking an enduringly controversial proposal by the 18th-century philosopher Jeremy Bentham.
In comments reported on Monday by The Telegraph, Mahmood said she wanted to use artificial intelligence for surveillance, as she proposed “Minority Report-style” policing.
“AI and technology can be transformative to the whole of the law and order space,” said the Home Secretary in an interview with former prime minister Tony Blair last month.
“When I was in justice, my ultimate vision for that part of the criminal justice system was to achieve, by means of AI and technology, what Jeremy Bentham tried to do with his Panopticon. That is that the eyes of the state can be on you at all times."

Operation Foreclosure: Russia Sets the Borders, US Takes the Mines, EU Pays the Welfare
The Abu Dhabi track ended without a peace treaty — and that was the point. The talks wrapped up like a bankruptcy hearing: no joint statements, no celebratory press conference, just controlled silence. Behind closed doors, the emerging outline is a receivership plan valued at roughly $500 billion #Russia sets the map on the ground, the #US locks in the extractive upside, the #EU absorbs the social bill, and #Ukraine is pushed to trade sovereignty for solvency.
In the corridors, insiders described a setup that looked like a creditors’ committee sizing up a distressed asset. But the clearest signal came from Moscow’s choice of envoy. Russia’s negotiating group was led not by a career Foreign Ministry diplomat and not by a civilian political operator, but by Admiral Igor Kostyukov, the head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff — Russia’s military intelligence chief (#GRU).

#TikTok's new CEO, Adam Presser, told the world jewish vongress last year how TikTok banned criticism of "zionists."
You can say, "You're a proud zionist," but if you're calling someone a "zionist" as a pejorative, then "that gets designated as hate speech," he said.

⚡️EU/U.S Biometric Travel Agreement
The EU approved negotiations with the U.S. to build a shared framework for exchanging travel data, including biometrics like facial images and fingerprints. The decision was made without public debate, then presented as a “security partnership.”
Each member state can opt in. Denmark says it will not participate, and Ireland will also sit out. Meanwhile, the European Commission has already set up a committee to negotiate the data sharing terms.
Do you trust governments to keep biometric databases from being expanded, repurposed, or breached?

⚡️Biometrics at Credit Unions
If you have walked into a credit union out of state lately, you may have hit a new hurdle. Before the teller lets you deposit cash, withdraw funds, or update account info, you are asked to enroll in IDCheck and scan your faceprint.
IDCheck is already active at 5,600 credit union branches nationwide. Any teller transaction out of state can require enrolling.
Credit unions rely on shared services networks. The biggest is Velera, formerly PSCU, and its Co Op network includes 30,000 plus ATMs and 5,600 shared branches. Fraud prevention is the excuse. The result is financial geo locking.

📑Finding a Private Knowledgebase That Works
I have been testing private PKM tools for years, trying to find something powerful without the usual privacy tradeoffs. My latest find is Anytype, and it has been working well for me so far.
What stands out is how it is built to work offline. You can use it without constant syncing, and you can even sync devices inside your local network without connecting to the outside world. It also asks for zero personal data. No email, no phone number, just an encryption key you get as a seed phrase.
The main drawback is storage for files. The base tier gives 100 MB for uploads, so images and attachments add up fast unless you pay. Also worth noting, Anytype is funded by VC firms, so keep your eyes open.
What are you using for your PKM?
