Twitter has supposedly started paying its Google Cloud bill again
The company avoids a potential disaster of its own making.

Twitter has resumed paying its Google Cloud contract, according to Bloomberg. If you missed the initial news of the impending showdown, Platformer reported on June 10th that Twitter had been refusing to pay Google for its cloud services ahead of their contract’s June 30th renewal date. The possibility of losing access to Google’s infrastructure led to a frantic rush at Twitter to migrate as many of its services off of Google’s servers. However, that effort was reportedly “running behind schedule,” opening the door for some of the company’s in-house tools to go offline come the end of the month.

#Twitter
blacklight@social.platypush.tech - #Twitter going rogue has much deeper implications than the Musk saga with all of its daily bullshit.

Let's not forget that, before the billionaire fascist buffoon took over, Twitter used to be a place where government and scientific entities used to post (and they still post) information that may be crucial for the population. Twitter used to be the primary place for announcements about earthquakes, eruptions, pandemics, tsunamis, weather alerts, shootings etc.

How does that cope with a reality where external APIs are basically shut down, their unofficial frontend API is no longer working either, viewing is only possible through registered accounts, and even those accounts have a cap on the number of posts that they can consume?

How can a service with such heavy constraints around monetization still be considered a viable way of delivering messages that matter for the whole population?

As an example, one of the few Twitter accounts that I still follow (mirrored on the Fedi) is the one of INGV - the Italian Institute for geology and vulcanology.

I've got my good reasons, as I was born in a city (Naples) that may be soon blown up by the eruption of the largest European supervolcano (Campi Flegrei).

As my parents and relatives are now sitting just 1-2 km above several square km of magma, I obviously follow any updates that the INGV Twitter account posts about earthquakes in the area, with an automated system of alerts in place.

How does that cope with a service that lets users see only a few hundreds of tweets per day, and where you need bullshit like being registered, verified etc. to reliably access the content?

Can you imagine a tsunami alert system in Japan that alerts only those who paid for a platinum alert subscription, and only if they haven't already consumed their budget of 5 yearly alerts?

Twitter must be abandoned RIGHT NOW by any institutional accounts that post stuff that can make the difference between life and death of people.

#Twitter #X CEO Linda Yaccarino Consults With Pro-Censorship #ADL on How to “Address Hate on the Platform”

Since implementing its flawed “freedom of reach, not speech” policy, X has consulted with several pro-censorship entities, including the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) and digital ministers that support censorship laws.

And on Tuesday, the CEO of the platform formerly known as Twitter spoke with yet another group that advocates for silencing online speech — the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

According to ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt, X CEO Linda Yaccarino had a very “frank” and “productive” conversation with him about where X “needs to go to address hate effectively on the platform.”

Greenblatt added that Yaccarino reached out to him to initiate the conversation.

...The ADL regularly advocates for online censorship and even wants this censorship to extend to the website infrastructure level.

And this isn’t the first time X has discussed censorship with the ADL. In November, when X was known as Twitter and X owner Elon Musk was serving as CEO, Musk revealed that he’d consulted with the ADL and other pressure groups on combatting “hate” and preserving “election integrity.”

Outside of its discussions with the ADL, X has recently beefed up its team that combat election “disinformation” and partnered with a company tied to a group that blacklisted conservatives.

THREAD: This is harrowing.
#Saudi #Arabia wanted the names of 6000 anonymous Arab Spring dissidents from #Twitter. At first, #MBS tried to get their names using EDRs - requests under emergency circumstances. When that proved cumbersome, KSA basically bought Twitter

They did so by threatening to pull twitter out of their market (biggest in the Middle East) and by offering to invest in heavily in Twitter. They also positioned two spies inside Twitter who helped funnel the personal information on dissidents out of Twitter to KSA.

In 2011, they invested $300M. In 2022, MBS bought that investment for $1.5B, worth $1.9B later that year, making KSA (The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) the biggest shareholder of Twitter behind Elon Musk.

The two KSA spies inside Twitter INFORMED Twitter that the personally identifying information they were gathering was for the Saudi Government. One received money and gifts from the KSA in exchange for the user data including $300K and a nice job after he fled the US.

Not only that, but the KSA oversaw a digital army of hundreds of Twitter users who hunted for dissident voices, and Twitter KNEW because the FBI confronted Twitter about it in 2015.

Then, within 48 hours of the FBI visit to Twitter, the social media company acknowledged they had "found" the leak to the FBI - proving they knew. The next day, the spy fled the US.

Six months later, Jack Dorsey met with MBS to discuss how they could work together to "train and qualify" Saudi groups on Twitter to do the very same work the two spy employees had done. And just 8 months prior to that meeting, KSA doubled its investment in Twitter.

Once KSA had recruited Twitter, it plotted to kidnap, disappear, and murder multiple dissident voices including the plaintiff's brother, and Jamal Khashoggi. The transnational criminal enterprise of threats to anonymous Twitter dissidents continues to this day.

I recommend you read this lawsuit to understand WHY the KSA and MBS own the second largest chunk of Twitter behind Elon Musk. How involved is Musk? I keep thinking of the photos from the World Cup with Kushner and MBS. What's Kushner's involvement? He just got $2B from MBS.

The company that X uses to verify its user's ID is an Israeli company founded by members of Shin Bet's unit 8200!

🤯

The company responsible for verifying people's ID on X is called "AU10TIX".

The CEO of AU10TIX, Ron Atzomn, was a member of Shin Bet's unit 8200.

For those who don't know, Shin Bet is Israel's main intelligence strike force.

Shin Bet is responsible for providing 90% of Israel's intelligence material.

It doesn't stop there however.

#AU10TIX was founded in 2002 as the technology arm of a dutch firm called "ICTS international".

ICTS international was established in 1982 ALSO by former members of Shin Bet.

Why is the company that X uses to verify its user's ID so connected with the Israeli intelligence unit Shin Bet with the CEO and founder being a former member of Unit #8200 !?

FBI Automatically Deleted Communications With Twitter

Elon Musk revealed during an interview that the FBI had a portal that would automatically delete its conversations with Twitter after two weeks.

Even though Musk now owns Twitter, he said, "we actually don't know what was said there."

Musk said this could potentially violate the Freedom of Information Act and raises questions about the nature of the conversations the FBI was having with Twitter.

Musk said the censorship was "coming from multiple parts of the government. From the State Department, the FBI, Homeland Security, from really many, many parts of the government. It wasn't just one arm of the government."
