وقتی از حقوق بشر حرف می‌زنیم، اغلب فکر می‌کنیم با مفهومی مدرن روبه‌رو هستیم. اما حقوق بشر خیلی پیشتر از آن که نوشته شود، در ذهن کسانی شکل گرفت که جرأت کردند در برابر قدرت بایستند. حقوق بشر در واقع مسافری است که در طول یک سفر طولانی رشد کرده، آموخته و خود را به جهان امروز ما رسانده است. اما پرسش اینجاست: ما درزندگی واقعیمان، در شهرهایمان، در قوانین‌مان و در رفتارمان، آیا نشانی از حضور این مسافر می‌بینیم؟
برنامه ریشه‌های داد روایتی است از همین سفر. از مسیر پرپیچ و خمی که عدالت پیموده و از پرسشی که هنوز بی‌پاسخ مانده است. این یک برنامه نیست. یک دعوت است برای دوباره دیدن و دوباره پرسیدن.
در این قسمت به معرفی فرانسیسکو د ویتوریا، فیلسوف، الهی‌دان و حقوقدان اسپانیایی پرداخته می‌شود. وی بنیانگذار مکتب سالامانکا بود و به خاطر نظریاتش درباره حقوق طبیعی و بین‌الملل شناخته می‌شود.
