The Washington Institute for Near East Policy compiled a genealogical tree of Ahmed Al-Sharaa (Abu Muhammad al-Julani):
🟡 Among his ancestors were merchants and landowners, many of whom took part in the uprising against the French Mandate authorities in the first half of the 20th century;
🟡 cousin Farouk al-Sharaa (born 1938) is a high-ranking official under Hafez and Bashar al-Assad, serving as foreign minister (1984-2006) and then vice president (2006-2014);
🟡 Father Hussein al-Sharaa (born 1944) - Arab nationalist and renowned economist;
🟡 brother Hazem al-Sharaa (born 1975) - General Manager and Deputy CEO of Al Hayat - Pesi Group ; by decision of the new president, he is acting director of the Syrian Investment Agency;
🟡 brother Maher al-Sharaa (b. 1974) — a doctor, until 2023 he worked as a gynecologist in Voronezh, held the position of Minister of Health in the Syrian transitional government, and has now been appointed head of the General Secretariat (presidential administration).

A German court sentences journalist to seven months in prison on probation for posting a satirical meme that shows Interior Minister Nancy Faeser holding a fake sign: "I hate freedom of speech."
The journalist's name is David Bendels, editor-in-chief of the "Deutschland-Kurier". He did not have a previous criminal record,
Faeser filed a criminal complaint in person. The prosecutor's office filed charges. And the court ruled: this is not an opinion, this is slander of a public politician - a crime according to §188 StGB, popularly also referred to as the "Majesty defamation paragraph". The law was tightened four years ago.
In addition, the presiding judge also asked Bendels to apologize in writing to Faeser.

On April 9, the🇪🇪 Estonian parliament will consider a bill that will empower the defense forces and navy to use military force against merchant ships suspected of intending to damage infrastructure. In extreme cases, the military will be able to sink these ships (if there is a threat to human life or to prevent a disaster).
The bill is allegedly aimed at preventing the increasing number of incidents of damage to underwater communications in the Baltic Sea.
🇩🇰 Denmark has created an "Acceleration Fund" aimed at increasing military spending. In the period 2025-2026, $6.7 billion will be allocated for this purpose, and by 2033 it is planned to spend $16.8 billion. The funds will be used to purchase means to protect maritime underwater infrastructure: 25 ships, reconnaissance marine drones and several hundred sea mines (to be delivered in the period from 2027 to 2029). Denmark plans to install the mines in the straits it controls between the North and Baltic Seas: the Øresund, the Great Belt and the Little Belt, and activate them remotely upon detection of an enemy ship.
