Invisible Adversaries: A Systematic Study of
Session Manipulation Attacks on VPNs

Session Manipulation Attacks on VPNs
We present three session manipulation attacks targeting TCP and UDP traffic tunneled through VPNs. The attacker who only connects to the same VPN server can launch denial-of-service attacks, hijack TCP connections of other clients, or inject forged DNS responses into their queries. We evaluate these attacks against five popular connection tracking frame- works across different OSes and nine major commercial VPN providers. Experimental results reveal that all frameworks and eight providers are vulnerable to at least one of the attacks. We have responsibly disclosed our findings with countermeasures, resulting in 19 assigned CVEs/CNVDs and acknowledgments from the communities and providers.#VPN

Bad Connection: Uncovering Global Telecom Exploitation by Covert Surveillance Actors | The Citizen Lab
#Cellular #Network #Telecom
Our investigation uncovers two sophisticated telecom surveillance campaigns and, for the first time, links real-world attack traffic to mobile operator signalling infrastructure. The findings expose how suspected commercial surveillance vendors (CSVs) exploit the global telecom interconnect ecosystem, leverage private operator networks, and conduct covert location tracking operations that can persist undetected for years.#Cellular #Network #Telecom

British fighter jets were given permission for the first time to shoot down Russian drones over Ukrainian territory near the border with Romania, the Romanian Defense Ministry says.
According to the Romanian Defense Ministry, a Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet made radar contact with a target at a distance of 1.5 km from the Ukrainian city of Reni in the Odessa region and received permission to destroy it.
The wreckage of one of the drones was found in Romania, in the Bariere-Traian area of the border city of Galați.
If the British Air Force really hit drones over Ukrainian territory, then without an adequate response from Russia, this could potentially open up opportunities for NATO to deploy its air defense systems on the border with Ukraine to protect its western regions from attacks by the Russian Armed Forces.

fast16 | Mystery ShadowBrokers Reference Reveals High-Precision Software Sabotage 5 Years Before Stuxnet | SentinelOne
#Fast16 #NSA #Stuxnet
SentinelLABS has uncovered a previously undocumented cyber sabotage framework whose core components date back to 2005
fast16.sys selectively targets high-precision calculation software, patching code in memory to tamper with results. By combining this payload with self-propagation mechanisms, the attackers aim to produce equivalent inaccurate calculations across an entire facility.
This 2005 attack is a harbinger for sabotage operations targeting ultra expensive high-precision computing workloads of national importance like advanced physics, cryptographic, and nuclear research workloads. fast16 predates Stuxnet by at least 5 years, and stands as the first operation of its kind.
The use of an embedded customized Lua VM predates the earliest Flame samples by 3 years
‘fast16’ is referenced in the infamous ShadowBrokers leak of NSA’s Territorial Dispute components.#Fast16 #NSA #Stuxnet
