First monthly intermediate results of the EU Code of Practice against disinformation
Facebook & Co. must redouble efforts against disinformation.
In its monthly report on the monitoring of a code of conduct to combat "fake news", the Commission accuses Facebook in particular of not delivering.
The Commission has received monthly reports from Google, Facebook and Twitter addressing actions taken during January 2019 towards implementation of the commitments on electoral integrity.
These three online platforms are signatories of the Code of Practice against disinformation and the Commission asked them to report monthly on their actions undertaken ahead of the European Parliament elections in May 2019, in particular on the scrutiny of ad placements, political and issue-based advertising and integrity of services.
Broadly, the Commission is encouraged that the Reports provide further information on the policies the platforms have developed to meet these commitments.
Nevertheless, the Commission remains deeply concerned by the platform’s failure to provide specific benchmarks to measure progress, by the lack of detail on the actual results of the measures already taken and lack of detail showing that new policies and tools are deployed timely and with sufficient resources across all EU Member States.

Facebook removed seven million posts in second quarter for false coronavirus information
(Reuters) - Facebook Inc (FB.O) said on Tuesday it removed 7 million posts in the second quarter for sharing false information about the novel coronavirus, including content that promoted fake preventative measures and exaggerated cures.
It released the data as part of its sixth Community Standards Enforcement Report, which it introduced in 2018 along with more stringent decorum rules in response to a backlash over its lax approach to policing content on its platforms.
The world’s biggest social network said it would invite proposals from experts this week to audit the metrics used in the report, beginning in 2021. It committed to the audit during a July ad boycott over hate speech practices.
The company removed about 22.5 million posts with hate speech on its flagship app in the second quarter, a dramatic increase from 9.6 million in the first quarter. It attributed the jump to improvements in detection technology.
It also deleted 8.7 million posts connected to “terrorist” organizations, compared with 6.3 million in the prior period. It took down less material from “organized hate” groups: 4 million pieces of content, compared to 4.7 million in the first quarter.
The company does not disclose changes in the prevalence of hateful content on its platforms, which civil rights groups say makes reports on its removal less meaningful.
Facebook said it relied more heavily on automation for reviewing content starting in April as it had fewer reviewers at its offices due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That resulted in less action against content related to self-harm and child sexual exploitation, executives said on a conference call.

Reality:
Stories about Bucha appeared in several foreign media outlets at once, which looks like a planned media campaign. Taking into account that the troops left the city on March 30, where was the footage for four days? Their absence only confirms the fake.
The video of the bodies is confusing: here at the 12th second the "corpse" on the right is moving his arm. At 30th second in the rear view mirror the "corpse" sits down. The bodies in the video seem to have been deliberately laid out to create a more dramatic picture. This is easily seen if you play the video at 0.25 of normal speed.
After Russian troops withdrew from Bucha, the AFU shelled the city. This may have also caused civilian casualties.
Mikhail Podolyak uses such staged footage as a pretext to request weapons from Western countries.

How is it that #journalists are not pausing to question the outrageous improbability of so many of the evidence-poor Hamas rape stories being advanced?
The Guardian has just published the latest in the western media’s endless cycle of stories claiming Hamas committed “systematic, mass rape” on October 7. Its article is headlined: “Evidence points to systematic use of rape and sexual violence by Hamas in 7 October attacks”.
The biggest problem with these stories isn’t just the continuing absence of any meaningful evidence for “systematic” rape; or Israel’s long track record of lying to justify state terrorism; or Israel’s refusal to cooperate with independent investigators; or the racist, anti-Arab tropes that pass for sophisticated analysis in western circles.
