🇵🇸 Medical staff appeal for urgent UN intervention as Israeli strikes hit Indonesian hospital

Israel is carrying out further bombing attacks across the Gaza Strip. Overnight, shelling in the north hit one of Gaza's biggest hospitals, killing at least 12 people. Staff at the Indonesian hospital are appealing for urgent intervention from the UN and Red Cross.

There are around 700 patients inside the hospital, and thousands of people in the compound including medics - that's according to Gaza's health ministry. The main operating room inside the hospital has been damaged.
Medical teams say the facility was targeted without prior warning.

Al Jazeera's Tareq Abu Azzoum is in Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza strip for the latest developments.

Deep concern over the fate of dozens of medical staff and wounded in the Al-Shifa complex in Gaza

The Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights expresses its deep concern about the fate of dozens of medical staff, wounded and sick in the largest #AlShifa medical complex in Gaza, in light of the ongoing military operation by the Israeli army inside the complex over the past several days .

The Euro-Med Monitor reports that there has been no contact or communication for 48 hours with anyone in the Al-Shifa compound, but it received a statement from one of the doctors before communication was cut off confirming that they had been subjected to violence. investigation and interrogation processes that included harassment, ill-treatment and their use as human shields.

The doctor said that medical staff are subjected to individual interrogations lasting several consecutive hours by Israeli forces, which deliberately cause widespread destruction and sabotage in all sections of the medical complex.

The Israeli army continues its raid on the Shifa compound for the sixth consecutive day, while 19 health workers and at least 259 wounded and sick continue to suffer serious complications and face a severe shortage of energy, water and medical supplies. .

The UN says nearly all of Gaza is on the verge of starvation.

For several days, Israeli aircraft kept bombing different buildings and departments of the hospital. Quadcopters were shooting directly at people, including patients and displaced persons. People were killed inside the hospital," Abu Saada, the head of the surgery department at al-Shifa Hospital, said.

"They besieged the hospital for five days before they stormed its departments. They kept us [in certain areas] and threatened us [with getting targeted].

"When they stormed the ground stores, they used us [doctors] as human shields to enter and search them. They found the technical maintenance employees there and interrogated them, before they detained them."

🇵🇸 Israel arrests, tortures Gaza doctors while world watches | Electronic Intifada

We were joined by Tarek Loubani, an emergency room physician based in Canada who has worked for years inside al-Shifa hospital in #GazaCity

He discussed the #abduction and #arrest of some of his colleagues by Israeli forces over the last few weeks, including Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, the director of #AlShifa #hospital.

Tarek explained that the Israelis’ intention in taking and arresting these physicians, and subjecting them to physical and psychological torture, is meant to break the back of the #healthcare system even further in #Gaza.

“I don’t think any of them really expected, especially under the flag of the #ICRC [International Committee of the Red Cross], for them to be subject to that kind of arrest,” Tarek said.

#AbuSalmiya’s arrest, “is a classic example of how the Israeli system works: it took him in with no charges, for no reason, it’s keeping him for a very specific purpose.”
