Kanafani’s revolutionary journey began with the Arab Nationalist Movement but was cut short due to his disillusionment with its Pan-Arab agendas, which blurred and scattered the Palestinian identity in the process of creating a unified Arab geographical and political continuum.  

It is by becoming a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in 1967 and especially helped by being the founder/editor of the widely circulated weekly Al-Hadaf, that Ghassan Kanafani transcended Arabism to Palestinianism.

🇵🇸 Reuters photographer Mohammed Salem won the 2024 World Press Photo of the Year award for his image of a Palestinian woman cradling the body of her five-year-old niece in the Gaza Strip.

The picture was taken on 17 October 2023 at the Nasser hospital in Khan Younis.

The image shows Inas Abu Maamar, 36, holding the body of her niece Saly, who was killed along with her mother and sister when an Israeli missile hit their home in Khan Younis.

“The jury commented on how the image was composed with care and respect, offering at once a metaphorical and literal glimpse into unimaginable loss,” the World Press Photo Foundation said.

According to the Committee for the Protection of Journalists, 103 journalists and #media workers are among the more than 37,000 Palestinian casualties of Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip since October 7.

Faced with the deadliest war for journalists in modern history, Forbidden Stories set out to investigate the targeting of the press in #Gaza and the #WestBank. 

The consortium analyzed nearly 100 cases of #journalists and media workers killed in Gaza, as well as other cases in which Israel has allegedly targeted, threatened, or wounded members of the press over the past eight months. Unable to report freely from inside the Strip, consortium members remotely contacted over 120 journalists and witnesses to military activities in Gaza and the West Bank; consulted around 25 ballistics, weapons, and audio experts, including Earshot; and used #satellite images.

Journalists working at #Britain’s most prestigious newspapers and TV channels have expressed concern at pro-Israel bias inside their organisations. Speaking exclusively to Declassified, half a dozen current and former staff at the #BBC, #Sky, #ITN, #TheGuardian and the #Times have disclosed the extent of anti-Palestinian prejudice in their newsrooms.

All of the #journalists requested anonymity for fear of professional reprisals. Despite working for a range of outlets from across the political spectrum, they painted a consistent picture of the obstacles faced by reporters who want to humanise Palestinians or scrutinise Israeli government #narratives.

A new #documentary on the murder of #ShireenAbuAkleh reveals that Israeli soldiers use her photo for target practice. This exposes the Israeli mentality that #journalists are “fair game”, and that the killing of journalists in #Gaza is no accident.

This is one of the revelations in the newly released Zeteo documentary “Who Killed Shireen.” The film exposes previously unreported details around the murder of the famous Al Jazeera journalist by an Israeli sniper in #Jenin on May 11, 2022, including the identity of the sniper who assassinated #AbuAkleh.
