🇵🇸 Reuters photographer Mohammed Salem won the 2024 World Press Photo of the Year award for his image of a Palestinian woman cradling the body of her five-year-old niece in the Gaza Strip.

The picture was taken on 17 October 2023 at the Nasser hospital in Khan Younis.

The image shows Inas Abu Maamar, 36, holding the body of her niece Saly, who was killed along with her mother and sister when an Israeli missile hit their home in Khan Younis.

“The jury commented on how the image was composed with care and respect, offering at once a metaphorical and literal glimpse into unimaginable loss,” the World Press Photo Foundation said.

Just unbelievable…
This is horrific. Think lamestream media will cover this? Nope. But recall, they tried to turn *actual* *existing* cemeteries near Mariupol into supposed "mass graves" (they were not; I went to all three).

"Following the Israeli army's withdrawal from various areas in the #Gaza Strip, numerous mass graves have been discovered, containing hundreds of bodies. Here are the most prominent mass graves that we have documented since 7 October 2023."

🇵🇸 Gaza: Israeli army expands its use of quadcopters to kill more Palestinian civilians

Palestinian Territory - As part of its genocide that has been ongoing since 7 October 2023, Israel has been ramping up its use of small drones, or quadcopters, to drop explosive bombs and “shoot to kill” more Palestinians.

The Israeli army uses electronically controlled quadcopter drones remotely for a variety of tasks, including espionage and surveillance, issuing displacement orders, frightening civilians with loud noises, and—most dangerously—using them as a weapon to kill and injure Palestinians.

‘Digital Kill Chains’: The Dark Side of Tech in Warfare

Are
#Palantir Technologies, #Starlink, and other tech giants seizing the opportunity to test their products’ war applications on civilians in #Gaza, turning the besieged strip into a proving ground for their technology?

In recent years, the intersection of technology and #warfare has come under public fire, raising profound ethical and legal questions about state military use of advanced tech tools. The role of advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) in modern conflicts is under intense scrutiny, especially when civilian lives are at stake.

As the genocide in Gaza advances, attention is turning to the companies whose technologies may be facilitating Israel’s daily atrocities, with US-based Palantir Technologies among them...

Palantir’s integration in Israel

Companies like Palantir Technologies, led by CEO Alex Karp, have been implicated in enabling some of these atrocities. Its advanced data analytics and AI tools that supposedly provide “precision targeting” are mass-killing civilians and have transformed warfare into a calculated and systematic campaign of extermination with little human oversight.

Founded in 2003 by Karp and Peter Thiel, Palantir Technologies has grown from a secretive data analytics startup to a cornerstone of modern military and intelligence operations. Initially funded by the CIA’s venture capital arm, In-Q-Tel, Palantir’s tech products have become integral to numerous US government agencies, including the FBI, Department of Defense, and various police departments.

This deep entanglement with US intelligence and military bodies paved the way for Palantir’s strategic alignment with Israel.

...The company established an office in Tel Aviv in 2015, strategically located overlooking Rothschild Boulevard on one side and Yehuda Halevy Street on the other.

This location underscores the company’s deep integration into the Israeli tech ecosystem. Karp himself highlighted Palantir’s strong ties to Israel in a December 2023 interview on Fox Business, stating, “We are very well known in Israel. Israel appreciates our product.”

...Palantir’s deep involvement in Israel’s military infrastructure is part of a broader, troubling pattern of technology enabling warfare. That connection extends to another tech giant – SpaceX’s Starlink, led by Elon Musk. Understanding this intricate relationship is crucial to grasping how modern conflicts are increasingly driven by advanced technologies developed by private corporations...

🇵🇸 Devastation Into Dollars: Israeli Startups Are Making a Killing in Gaza

Despite calls across college campuses demanding divestment from Israel, one sector of the Israeli economy appears to be booming. Israeli startups raised over $1 billion in funding for the second straight month in May.

A number of these successful startups have participated in Israel’s ongoing war on the besieged Gaza Strip, suggesting genocide is a lucrative marketing tool for #business. Products like suicide #drones, smart guns, and robot dogs have all been deployed on the battlefield since October 2023, with some startups even exploiting the war to their advantage and touting their #technologies’ use in the war as an advertising boost

Israel’s government-owned and private companies alike have long promoted their weapons as “battle-tested,” with the occupation of Gaza and the West Bank serving as Israel’s homegrown weapons-testing laboratory.

🇵🇸The livestream was critical evidence’: Tracing attacks on Gaza’s press buildings | +972 Magazine –

According to the Committee for the Protection of Journalists, 103 journalists and #media workers are among the more than 37,000 Palestinian casualties of Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip since October 7.

Faced with the deadliest war for journalists in modern history, Forbidden Stories set out to investigate the targeting of the press in #Gaza and the #WestBank

The consortium analyzed nearly 100 cases of #journalists and media workers killed in Gaza, as well as other cases in which Israel has allegedly targeted, threatened, or wounded members of the press over the past eight months. Unable to report freely from inside the Strip, consortium members remotely contacted over 120 journalists and witnesses to military activities in Gaza and the West Bank; consulted around 25 ballistics, weapons, and audio experts, including Earshot; and used #satellite images.

Britain has sent over 80 military transport planes to Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, since the bombing of Gaza began, Declassified can reveal.

All the flights have gone from RAF Akrotiri, Britain’s sprawling air base on Cyprus which has long been a staging post for bombing missions in the Middle East. It sits 150 miles, or 45 minutes flight time, from Beirut.

There has been a steady stream of flights since the Israeli assault on Gaza began in October, but the number rose dramatically in April with 25 flights going from Akrotiri to #Beirut

May saw the same number of flights, with another 14 so far this month.
